Anyone else thinking that this guy has been playing hard. Keeping the puck possession. Making smart and good moves. I really think he should be up on the top two lines. Maybe send JVR down to the 3rd line for a few games? Over the last few games Kalinski and Briere have been the bright spots. I think we need to utilize both more.

I like Kalinski and have been impressed with his effort on the ice, but a top-6 forward he is not.

The guy's been trying to play his way onto this team. And continously works his ass off both ends of the ice. Thats more than i can say about 90% of our roster. I think the Nodl-Pyro-Kalinski line was awesome. Might not be your high scoring line, but they get their chances and eat up ice time with high energy play.

Yea thats kind of my point. They have been the best line since Lavi came in. They get the system and play it well. I think kalinski could more motivate the players on the 1st and second line rather than produce like them.

I dont know if i had a AHLer on my line outworking me, out chancing me, out deeking me, id step it up. But then again sometimes I feel like my own competitive level is higher than this teams'.

That line has played great, you can tell that they want to be out there and prove they deserve to be, which is alot more than most of the team can say.

They would probably have some goals to show for their effort if Nodl wasn't a turnover machine, but that is a topic for another thread I suppose.

I still have Kalinski digging the puck off the boards, weaving through 2 guys and then trying to cross the puck from his stomach in my mind. One of the best hard work plays I have seen this year.

I'd just like to give Kalinski some more props here...he'll probably be gone back to the Phantoms in a matter of days, but dude's been awesome in this most recent stint. As I was just saying in the Bartulis thread....I'm shocked at how much I've been liking Kalinski's game this season, cuz he never impressed me much with the Phantoms or Flyers in the past. But he's been busting his ass like crazy lately and constantly surprising me with his hands and some of the chances he creates. He was the only Flyer I really enjoyed watching in that mother****ing godforsaken ****storm of a loss to the Pens in ****tsburgh. It's ashame he hasn't been rewarded with some more icetime, or at least a cup of coffee on a scoring line.

Going by the lines used in tonight's game, I'd like to see Kalinski get a shot in Pyorala's spot next game...alongside Richards and Carcillo.

I could see him staying up and JVR going down once Gagne and Powe get back.

I highly doubt that. I think sending back Kalinski will be the right thing to do once our guys are healthy...I'm just acknowledging that he's been great while here, and I don't think it'd hurt to give him a quick shot on a scoring line before he goes back. I'd like to see JVR work harder, but I definitely don't think he should be going anywhere.

Why in the world would JVR go down???

The little I have seen of Kalinski I like....however, like someone else said, he is not a top 6 forward.....The only way I see him ever getting those kind of minutes is if you are balancing the lines and he plays with Gagne and Richards or something along those lines

JVR is probably hitting that wall that any rookie hits, doesnt help that the rest of the team has collapsed around him as well

It may be tight this year when Powe and Gagne come back.

I like Kalinski though.

I had a conversation with the editor here a while ago when dealing with the last top 20s about Kalinski. She had interviewed him a while back and thought he was a utility 4th liner at best.

Unfortunately I happen to agree with her to an extent.

Betts, Powe, Asham, Carcillo, and Pyorala

Laperriere and Cote are the only players locked up for next year on the NHL team that could offer him competition.

Nodl and Legein (if he's ready) might make cases as well, but I think they'd be better to fill Pyorala and Carcillo's role.

I don't necessary feel like it SHOULD come to this, but it could come down to Betts and Kalinski fighting once again.

I'd enjoy a lineup like this next season:

vanRiemsdyk - Giroux - Powe
Hartnell - Carter - Briere
Gagne - Richards - Nodl
Kalinski - Betts - Laperriere

Basically I'm hoping Carcillo gets replaced by Kalinski while Powe and Betts get new contracts. Nodl gets called up in Pyorala's spot.

Carcillo has been nasty. When he plays hockey he's a great complimentary player. Hope he sticks

And I love Kalinski too. I'm very high on pretty much everyone we have available for bottom 6 spots minus Cote.

There is an article out there about him having some tightness in practice yesterday, lemme see if I can find it.

Gagne update

Flyers coach Peter Laviolette said Simon Gagne, who has been out since undergoing abdominal surgery on Nov. 2, could return as early as tomorrow afternoon against the Rangers. He said that Gagne felt tightness in yesterday's morning skate but that everything else appears to be on track.

"He's coming off a surgery," Laviolette said. "With his history and everything else, he wants to feel good about being back in the lineup."

Yes, with their logic, I'm kinda surprised he didn't play yesterday.

The only thing ive been more impressed with besides kalinskis play has been Carters lack of scoring given all of his chances. The guy is an excellent play on a energy line with powe. He should stay. I think if you get kalinski and powe with another sold player you can have a 3rd similar to the Pens. And although they dont score a lot against us, they do get a lot of chances, draw penalties, and stay in the O zone.

does this mean Briere gets hurt tomorrow? It seems these two pass the baton.
