... Simmonds has 9 goals, tied for third on this team, and has 6 minutes TOTAL of power play time. He looks like a 25 goal scorer right now, and if he gets some chances to be out there with the man advantage, there is no reason to think he won't get there. He's earned it. There is nothing he can't do, and a future Selke trophy (as well as a future C on his shoulder) is very much a possibility. There's no one on this team I enjoy watching more than Simmonds.
Big difference between that and the numbers RH is hoping for. Like I said, love the kid, but he isn't a 90+ pt scorer.
I started saying last year that Simmonds has 40 goal potential in his lanky bones. Its definitely a reach, but not crap!
its a fantastically crappy reach. MVP is not happening, otherwise we got bigger problems on our hands then we thought. btw, i bought my first kings jersey this year after being a fan for over 15 years, guess who got his number and last name on my back?

I don't mean anytine soon.
How the hell do you know how good Simmonds will be in 4 years? Crazier (and crappier) things have happened.

i don't, but my guess that he won't be league MVP in 4-5 years is a lot likelier than him being one. AND if he does become one i will be the first and more than happier to eat his crap if it does happen.
btw, even a 40-50 guy would barely get him into the top 10 in scoring.

Our wires got crossed.
I don't think Simmonds will ever be a league MVP. I do think he has 40 goal potential. I don't think he has 50 goal potential. I don't think he will be a perennial 40 goal scorer. I think he could easily become a perennial 30 goal scorer. I would put hard money on him being a perennial 20 goal scorer. I simply mean to say I don't think its a reach to say Simmonds could have a couple of 40 goal seasons in his career.
Maybe not MVP but I can see him being the backbone of a team and it wouldn't be a shock for him to have an amazing playoff some season in the future and run away with playoff MVP.
Doughty can win the Norris this season but it's not likely. Keith is having such an amazing year, I'd put my money on him or Boyle.
He's definitely the best of the young talent though (EJ, Bogo). I haven't seen Hedman enough to comment on him but, I imagine he's somewhat out of the Norris run just because of rookie mistakes and what not.
If the Kings continue their great play and finish in the top 10 overall in the league, I think some of the Kings players could be up for major awards. Drew Doughty would definitely be considered for the Norris Trophy and Simmonds could have an outside shot at the Selke. Kopitar would be a long shot for MVP, but if he goes on another tear when Smyth returns, who knows. If the Kings can finish top in the Pacific, I think Murray would get a lot of consideration for the Jack Adams.
I think Doughty has the best shot at winning an award if his play continues, here are his current rankings among defensemen:
T1st in goals
T4th in points
T10th in +/-
T1st in GW goals
T2nd in Shooting %
T22nd in Time on ice/game
Thoughts?
I am glad you started this thread beacuse I was just telling a buddy last night that if Doughty keeps up this pace he should be in the final 3 for the Norris. It's real hard to believe that he just turned 20 3 days ago.

i'm with jdm. if simmonds keeps his work ethic. all should fall into place
If he continues to play at this pace, I could see him possibly winning the Norris. But it wouldn't be because he deserved it, it would be more of a hype thing.
Kind of like Obama winning the nobel peace prize. Eventually he may deserve it, but the committee may have voted him a little early. This is the only situation in which I see Doughty winning.

you're not with him, he's taken. i was responding to the league MVP comment, i don't doubt that theres a possibility of him being a 40 goal scorer and a possible perrenial 30 goaler.
At his current pace he would HAVE to be considered. I'm guessing he would be the youngest to ever win it? Anyone know who currently holds that record?
Bobby Orr was the youngest winner, receiving the award just a couple of months after his 20th birthday. If Doughty was to win it, he'd be 2nd-youngest. Just as a reference point, Ray Borque didn't win his first Norris until he was 26.

It could be. Let you know when the season is over.

Cool, thanks. I guess if you had to be 2nd then Orr wouldn't be a bad one to be 2nd to.....
Doughty T1st in goals Keith T4th
T4th in points Keith T4th
T6th in +/- Keith 10th
T1st in GW goals w/3 Keith 0 GWG
T2nd in Shooting % Keith 29th
T22nd in Time on ice/game Couldnt find Keiths stats for the last category. Sorry.
and Green aren't playing near as well as they were last year.
Green is on pace for more points and a better +/- than last season. 73 pts and +24 last season in 68 games.
Doughty is on pace for 60 points and +25 with 7GWG
Green is on pace for 77 points and +28
As long as there is someone out there putting up a point per game it's going to be really tough for a defnseman on the west coast to win. They are going to need 30 goals and 90+ points to get enough media attention. Like it or not we're never going to stop being screwed by this.
