Man, I still remember that Salo fight. My entire youth roller hockey team went to that game.

Still, he's a borderline AHL goalie at this point. If the Rangers are serious about a backup, this isn't the way to go.

Johnson deserves at least 1 start before we bring him, but Dan was always fun to watch, or should I say fight.

We should sign him just so he can punch a current Ranger or two in the face.. I'm looking at you, Rozsival and Kotalik.. Both of you need to be punched..

Seriously, apart from Johnson, I don't think any of the other possible backups deserves even one game. But then, Lundqvist can hardly play nearly 60 in a row...

Always liked Clouts but I would rather trade for Halak.

Chicago has Cloutier in Rockford for a reason. They can't bring up Corey Crawford as their payroll stands right now because he is signed for next year and that would put the Hawks over the tagging limit allowed under the CBA. If they need a backup for 1-2 games, they can bring up Cloutier because he is only on a PTO right now.

I just saw a youtube video of him making saves with 2 sticks (one inadvertently got stuck inside of his jock or something) hahaha

But seriously, we need a decent backup. Brooks is such a clown for suggesting this. I'd love him for the fights (especially for all the isles games this month) but this would be the wrong move, he's an AHL goalie at best.

And that's just it, Lundqvist can't play every game and as long as there is a chance the Rangers make the playoffs, they need to have a goalie who can be called upon to start more than one game a month.

Playing musical chairs with several completely untested prospects and a goalie who can't stop a beach ball is not going to help the team.

Especially this year considering Lundqvist is also going to be playing in the Olympics

That only makes the issue more urgent.

No one knows--he's coming off an injury and hasn't played in 18 months.

And in all fairness to Brooks--he suggests waiting a couple a weeks and seeing how Cloutier does during that time.

I'm pretty sure (though never asked- but I know his face) that hes played at The Pavillion a number of times in SI open hockey. Every time I think hes played, hes done well (facing shots from a bunch of college player- quit-ees like myself).

Id say (if I'm right and it IS him) give him a start and see what we see. If its bad, thats the end of it. One of my cousins had a tryout for the Flyers last playoffs and is now with the Gladiators; so who knows, it COULD work out.

Chicago would have to actually sign Cloutier if they want to bring him up...you can't play in the NHL on a PTO I don't believe. So he's pretty much fair game if anyone wants to sign him

However, why would you want to sign Dan Cloutier

What?!?!

My question is when the hell did the Rangers backup situation become a mess? What just because Torts leaves Vally in the whole game during a blowout, all of a sudden he's the reason the team sucks? So he sends him and Gilroy down as if this solves Gaborik being the only good player on the team. WTF is Torts thinking at this point I gotta ask. He's looking at the wrong end of the ice IMO. Move Drury and get two players who can score for the same price. Vally's was respected as a good backup before he arrived, and nothing's changed this team is grasping at straws for answers.

oh and hell no on cloutier

That '70s show references.

Classic.

But yeah, I'd bring him back as a mentor to teach Lundqvist how to stick up for himself because no one else is doing it

Otherwise I'm not huge on this idea.

Cloutier played a period in the preseason for the Red Wings against the Rangers, stopping 8/8 shots. So... he's seen some NHL action this year.

Was about to say he didn't look bad in preseason and taht was against a rangers team that actually scored goals at the start of the year.
