Thanks BB. I'm definitely a fan now (after the 5 game win streak), but I've been holding on to hope all season. Let's see what happens for the rest of the season. DP ftw!

I'm a homer, am a fan, and like them all at the same time.

It's a good time to be me

Thanks BB. You rock!

Not a homer, but I definitely am a fan. I don't get too high after a win (although I enjoy them a lot), or too low after a loss

The Oilers are like my family, they can piss me off to no end but I'll still love them. It's really no option.

It's good for Dubnyk to get in some game action:

That is good news. The Falcons could use a win and DD could use some game time. I'm surprised the Oilers would risk him getting injured though. They usually are pretty consistent in putting the big team first.

Injury? I'd think that the longer he sits on the bench, the colder he gets, and the more likely he would be to get injured when he eventually does see some gametime.

Think of it like a conditioning stint, which is kinda is.

Oh, I agree. But read your own post again. You are saying exactly what I fear. He has been sitting for awhile now already and it is a recipe for a groin pull.

That said they have got to get him a start sometime and it doesn't look like he will get it with the Oilers unless something terrible happens so good for them to send him off while they have a few days off.

Total fanboy and homer here. (as if this is news to anyone who's spent more than 5 seconds on this board)

The way I look at it, that is what a true fan is. Its like a marriage, through thick and thin, good and bad, you stick with it and support the one you love

The Red Wing goal boiled down to incompetence. Period. The referee screwed up and that was his only out. Absolutely pathetic.

Well, there is some arguing, negativity, cynicism about inlaws and the like even in a successful marriage..

Not that I'm saying anything with that.

Recipe for a groin pull? It's no different than him getting one in a game in the NHL after some time out. Plus, if he doesn't play in Springfield (or otherwise), the problem just gets worse. Does it not?

Yes, it does get worse. I agree.

I just find find it strange that the Oilers who have pretty much abandoned their farm team in past years actually thought to send DD down for a game and because it was so surprising to me I was trying to figure out the pros and cons. Maybe they are going to play him to get him ready for a game with the big club?

I don't know but concern for their farm team is not really something I expect from Oilers brass.

Fair enough. I think sending him down on an off-day is a way for DD to get a game in for "free". And I wouldn't be surprised if it's a precursor to him returning and playing a game for the Oilers. Wouldn't it make sense for DD to shake off his rust playing for the Falcons instead of doing that in Oiler silks? Perhaps the brass is not really being as altruistic as you think.

Probably not. I guess the idea of them thinking ahead is also a little bit startling to me.

Before the season I predicted we would see DD in up to 8 games this year and I don't think it will be that far off. JD has played well enough in this stretch but it is a very small sample size and I am one of those guys who thinks the biggest difference between a starter and backup is consistency rather than skill.

To this day the most amazing goaltending I have ever seen from an Oiler was a game by Ron Tugnutt. I hope he he had it taped because we never saw it again from him.

I won't believe JD has the consistency thing until I have seen him carry the mail for 30 - 40 games. That said he has already surpassed the expectations of many who rated his future based exclusively upon his past.

Wise words.

JDD's done fine in my estimation, although it was sure rocky for a while. He has been good on this road trip, and I think he's done as well as can be asked given the circumstances.

I definitely agree that it's all about consistency. Not just for the goalies, but the whole team. It's a fine line they are walking right now.
