Rangers practice 12/13 notes-Duby near,Gabby/Prospal may split

From Arthur Staple. He was probably the only writer at the practice.

Dubinsky activated. PA sent back

Quote:
That was the lone bit of news from today's 40-minute practice. Dubinsky may still sit out tomorrow's game with the Thrashers to take a couple more days to prepare for his return from a broken hand, but John Tortorella decided to demote Parenteau, who had no points in his last eight games after doing well upon being recalled earlier in November.

Dubinsky will be among the top six forwards, obviously, but where is up in the air. Tortorella gave some indication today, saying that he may split up Vinny Prospal (0-3-3 in last 8) and Marian Gaborik and that Chris Drury (0-3-3 and minus-5 in last 8) is still an important player for the team.

Tortorella also indicated that Chad Johnson may get a game next week, possibly one of the back-to-back games with the Islanders.

Dubinsky is close. It's been five weeks.

Break up Prospal and Gaborik

Drury an important player. He had to remind us?

Ocho cinco will be interesting to watch.

It's not like Prospal/Gabby has really worked the past few games. But i don't think anyone else will work when they are given two shifts with him.

I would like to see Anismov get some more chances.

I hate our captain more than anyone, but putting Prospal with Drury could be great.

Having Callhan with Gaborik would be awesome as well.

would be interesting. avery-dubi-jagr certainly worked out. yes, jagr and gaborik are very different players, but they both create offense while dubi and avery are bangers. it could work

I'm all for...

Avery - Dubi - Gaborik
Prospal - Anisimov - Lisin
Higgins - Drury - Callahan
Boyle - Christensen - Kotalik

I've been wanting this for awhile, maybe splitting up Prospal and Gabby will spread out the offense.

However, there is also the strong possibility that Gaborik makes Prospal a better player and Prospal won't have much success without him. Nonetheless, Prospal's passing ability is among the best on the team and it won't hurt to try him with the likes of Drury, Cally, etc.

Looks good... If only the players could play like they're supposed to do, we wouldn't even crave for tanking right now. Please turn it around and step it up... PLEASE.

I have not given up on the team yet.

I'm all for splitting Gabby and Prospal up. I think that might be the only thing at this point that could help improve our non-existent "secondary scoring". As far as Johnson goes, I'm really excited to see the kid play and it sure would be great if he played against the fishsticks and won in his first NHL game

Good NHL teams don't have a guy like Sean Avery on the first line.

Is there any chance Dubinsky actually plays tomorrow?

Hopefully he can spark something...

We've been to the second round of the playoffs with Sean Avery receiving top line minutes and top power play minutes.

There are way to many fans of field hockey in here. Avery 2 years ago was as good as any player on this team. Guy is talented

He still has some discomfort in the hand. The Rangers equipment staff designed a brace/cast/protection for Dubinsky to wear. He had trouble shooting the puck before wearing that protection. He can't re-injure the hand unless he gets hit with another shot on the same spot.

Quote:
Tortorella said that it is essentially up to Dubinsky, who has missed 13 games with the broken hand he sustained in Calgary on Nov. 7, to declare himself ready to go, assuming he is cleared by trainer Jim Ramsay.

"I don’t think he’s in any danger [of re-injuring the hand] but with something like a broken bone or a knee, a player has to get through it mentally," the coach said. "It’s Dubi’s call. We want him to play, he’s dying to play, and so we’ll decide after the morning skate.

"He’s an important guy. He’s a center, he forechecks, he hits and hopefully he’ll help us with some scoring. He’d be a big lift for us

It was five weeks on Saturday that Dubinsky had his hand broken.

While I agree, I don't think we really have an abundance of legitimate first line wingers.

Callahan and Gaborik? Only if Callahan learns who to control the puck and not to dump it on every second occasion

True, but even then, I think Higgins has done quite well there. The problem with Avery is that when you put him with those kind of skill players, he thinks he is a skill player. When that happens, he's not only less effective in the role he should be playing, but he makes a ton of bad decisions with the puck.

Avery belongs on a "go go go" line where he can use his speed and tenacity to create scoring chances. It's not that I don't think he's a good hockey player, I just think he needs to focus more on being Sean Avery the pest and less on Sean Avery the offensive dynamo.
