As Gene Hackman once said in the replacements---you got have heart miles and miles of heart--something this team is missing.

After thinking about it for a day or 2 I finally got it.

A do over on July 1/st 2007--the date we signed Gomez and Drury to those killer contracts.

Followed by July 1/st 2008--Redden's contract.

This tanking talk makes me sick.

Are these the same boards who were ripping the Pens a few years ago on their tanking?

At least those classy avatars will make them standout, that way you know what kind of 'fan' you're dealing with

What? A man can't have an avatar with tanks on them?

Well those good times will happen a lot sooner if we land Hall or Seguin.

In all seriousness, tanking would imply that we are trying to lose. In our team's case we clearly just suck. What's the harm in hoping this suckitude leads to a franchise forward instead of more of our seemingly perpetual mediocrity?

Well, thats the thing, I see no use in tanking. Competing helps now and in the long run, everyone in hockey knows this. You can't just let youngsters who will be part of the team for many years get thrown to the wolves. Even small steps help this early in their careers. The vets I could care less about, but they're not worthless, the youngsters need them around.

Assuming we keep our pick, whether its a top ten or top 20 pick our scouts have been doing a good job. Hall or Seguin would be nice, but lets not tank, earn those losses

I haven't used the word "Tank" once that I can remember and tried to encourage others not too either, the Avatars are just funny and make light of the whole situation. But if we are going to suck I'd rather we suck hard.

My avatar is only a coincidence. I fully support this team coming in 9th in the East.

It's not like Im talking obnoxious smack in every other opponents GDT, or betting $$$ on the Rangers every night, or buying every marginal players jersey....

Yeah, that'd be great, to such hard, after our big free agent signings and our new superstar. Yeah. Good idea. Then we'll be the biggest laughing stock in the league. The Isles, wont be. People know they're rebuilding. We on the other hand were at least expected to make a push for a spot.

I love how people think Hall or Seguin are going to step in and instantly be beasts. Especially with our drafting in the 1st round record. Hell, people are on Del Zottos case already. No one in this town has the patience to watch kids develop, everyone wants instant success like Was and Pitt had (and even THEY had growing pains the first few years).

People need to realize this is not a common thing.

I don't think anyone's saying Hall or Seguin would instantly make us cup contenders. They're saying that Hall or Seguin would make us a lot better, a lot more fun to watch, and would eventually (combined with the rest of our strong prospect base) put us over the top. The idea seems to be that if we get Hall or Seguin we will be real contenders when Drury and Rozsival's contracts expire or soon thereafter. If (and that is a big if), Gordie Clark is right about the guys we drafted we could see something a roster like this lead us to the promised land:

Hall-Stepan-Gaborik
Grachev-Anisimov-Kreider
Avery-Dubinsky-Callahan
Some sort of actually useful fourth line

Staal-Girardi
Del Zotto-McDonagh
Sanguinetti/Gilroy-Redden

Either I'm right or this post becomes great comedic material in a few years.

Lol...don't laugh, I just said to my fiancee (who happens to be CJ on the Devils board) that the only thing that keeps me a Ranger fan is that she would lose all respect for me if I abandoned the Rangers and jumped on the Devils band wagon, and she says to me, "No, I wouldn't!"

She's striking when I'm at my weakest!

But you did follow the Devils, two + years ago when we decided we were going to copy them. Then we copied Buff after they eliminated us, now I guess we are copying the old Florida teams with one man show Bure? This team hasn't had it's own identity since Sather has taken over.

Having the tank avatar was just a joke. I don't want the Rangers to tank. What I want is for them to play w some heart and to get a GM who knows what he's doing. I'd also like to have an owner who cares about building a good club and who cares about the fans. I changed my avatar so that some people on here wouldn't have the wrong idea.

"Tanking" is usually when you ice a bad team purposely so you lose. The Rangers really aren't doing that, they just suck lol.
