Sounds about right value-wise, maybe a little low, I think Gainey can get a second, but yeah, I don't see how it helps the team much so might as well hang on to him.

lolwut.

The Hawks have allowed the 2nd least goals in the league with a hot Huet and Niemi. Plus they have Crawford in the pipeline, there is no way he's headed there.

Detroit? Huh? Have you seen Jimmy Howard? Or Thomas McCollum? What a ****ing BRUTAL proposal too to deal the brothers, loool.

If Halak gets traded, it will be for a player that can help us. If it's only a pick, trading him is useless and would bite us in the ass if Price gets hurt.

Am I the only one that's shocked about the fact it took him about half an hour to come up with this? Half an hour of thinking... and this is the result?

If you are looking to send Halak out west and get him out of the conference a deal could be made with LA.

Quick is our number one period. Halak would be a backup without question.

Ersberg is a capable replacement and if Gainey doesn't expect more than a second it would be hard to pry much else away from LA. A mid tier draft pick thrown in maybe. Purcell has fallen out of favor with LA fans and could use a change of scenery.

Bernier will be full time next year as well. So Halak to LA would be temporary.

Teams who would be interested are Carolina, Philly, Columbus, Long Island, and several others who have #1 goalies missing or trying to find some depth at the position. Some of them, Halak would end-up being in the same position as with Price here when they would come bcak from their injuries.

Halak would probably have the most icetime with Philly or Long Island, regardless if Emery comes back (cause we all know what he's capable of in the lockeroom and a lockeroom already turned bad won't get much better with Emery), or if Dipietro comes back (as we know he'll eventually get injured again).

This joke is older than you think around here. If I recall correctly, it used to be Aebisher, Zednik and a 2nd back in the days, if not even older. We'll find some substitutes for the joke, don't worry.

When you make a trade proposal, try looking at it from the other team's point of view instead of just MTL's...

to LAK:

Hamrlik
Gill
Halak

to Mtl:
J.Johnson
Frolov
Ersberg

we take on a little more risk since Frolov is UFA at the end of the season, but get a potential gem in Johnson, and if Frolov can come in and click with Gomez-Gionta, we end up with two very good scoring lines, plus we free up ~6.5M in extra cap space for next year, money that can go towards re-signing Pleks, Price and Frolov (if the fit is good).
Losing Hamrlik, who has been by far our best D, hurts, but imo Markov/Johnson is at least the same if not an immediate upgrade over Hamrlik/Gill, and long-term it's clearly in our benefit. Ersberg is a capable backup on a cheap salary signed through next season.

LAK gets an upgrade on D (in the short term, Hamrlik + reuniting Gill-Scuderi) and better goaltending depth, two elements that should help them lower their GA/per game (which is 2nd worst in the Western conference, despite being tied for 1st overall in points), which could definitely help them cement their great start. With Smyth due back any day now, their offense should be able to manage losing Frolov, who hasn't been a great fit with T.Murray anyways...

*yes, quick was the player of the week, but if you look at his entire season, and his past seasons, he's plagued by the same thing, giving up soft goals on an almost game by game basis. Ersberg is not good enough to push him for the #1 spot, with Halak in there, they'd have a significant upgrade and even if Halak doesn't take the job outright, he'd be there for when Quick falters.

My proposal makes perfect sense.

Halak = Fleury, both are #1 goalies.

Pittsburgh has 2 first line centers, and they definitely need to get rid of one and replace him with a 2nd line center (Gomez).

Gomez's salary is a bit high, so we'll sweeten the deal with a 1st round pick.

NOW TELL ME WHERE I'M WRONG PLZ

Halak is virtually worthless (2nd round pick, JUST LIKE all the other guys who have been traded before him)

However, if a team really wants him, is really in trouble or just badly wants Halak and just Halak (like LA with Garon a couple years ago), then, we might be able to pour a bit more juice.
Particularly if that team has contracts they do not want to keep. (e.g. if Chicago needed a goalie, which they do not, and if they thought that the odd man out of their cap situation is patrick sharp, well, that would be the biggest possible return EVER.)

Other and final possibility is if he's involved in a BIG BIG deal, like the Richards deal a couple years ago.
e.g.
(smoking some good stuff then pretending I'm making up a good trade offer )
Gomez, Halak, O'Byrne and d'Ago
for
Mike Smith and Lecavalier

Of course, if that happened, I would have the hardest boner ever.

One reason why I can see this happening is that Hammer is playing lights out for us this season. I would do it to be honest... JJ is going to be a stud. Our Lineup would look

Cammy Pleks Akost
Frolov Gomez Gio
Patches Metro Skost
Moen Lapierre Laraque

Markov JJ
Spacek Gorges
OByrne MAB

Price
Ersberg

Not bad... and when Mara gets back we would be pretty set on D still... with some younger blood as Spacek would be the only 32+ D on the team.

LA's Lineup would look like

Smyth Kopitar Williams
Purcell Stoll Brown
Parsy Handzus Richardson
Ivanans Moller Harrold

Scuderi Doughty
Hammer Jones
Gill/Odonnell Greene

Quick
Halak

They would basically just replace Frolov with Smyth, and have an amazing Defense. This trade would help both teams this season... but the future is a different story. I dunno if LA would go for this.
