it didnt cost us anything where Montreal would try and bend us over for Halak.
Leighton will be here for 4 weeks, Emery gets back and hes back on the waiver wire.

Yes. Because the whole point of this move was to make him the #1 goaltender.

So... dont give Backlund a shot but instead over 4.00 GAA Leighton? I have no idea how this makes sense...

I agree...would be fun to see Backlund play, at least he might prove he's OK. I know Leighton is awful.

Why sign Backlund if your never going to give him a chance, last year they thought he was better than "the monster".

Is Backlund really going to do worse than a .848?

I was actually looking forward to seeing Backlund in net. I've never got to see him play.

Leighton sucks and Backlund is unproven and, to be honest, would likely get lit up for a few starts.

And, well, we don't have the opportunity to burn points. So, it's pretty much Boucher until he breaks. And hopefully that is after Emery comes back.

Wonder if this signing was just for a trade, etc, something short term. Already signed one to a AHL try out contract last weekend and now this. How many goalies is the organization going to collect.

My guess is that Boucher is going to play pretty much all the games anyway and they want Backlund to continue adjusting to the NA game in the AHL rather than sit around and act as a doorman for the defensemen.

The real question is what happens when we waive Leighton and he gets sent to the Phantoms. Then we will have 4 goalies, Leighton, Backlund, Riopel, and Grahame

Grahame should be able to get released. Leighton can rot in the press box for all I care.

Maybe he is Luongo/Broduer good.

I would be so happy, obviously. We sure could use a solid netminder.

I am just waiting for Eriksson. The kid sounds legit as hell. Also Im not putting off Riopel yet. He is the youngest goalie in the AHL on an average phantoms team. Theres so long a 19 yr old can stop 35+ shots a game. Also his record shows he sucks in the beginning but then gets used to it and dominates. Hopefully thats the same case. I just hope they dont demote him to the ECHL.

I actually like this move.. Now bring a goal scorer in, and I'm happy with the front office(even if we give up Carter, Coburn, or Hartnell). Although, if they start scoring goals again soon, I won't be bothered anymore (:
