Perhaps just a temporary move? Leighton isn't as good as Emery I would say...

It's because they either don't trust giving Backlund NHL minutes, or they just feel at this point Leighton is better than Backlund in case Boucher needs rest before Emery comes back.

Besides, it's a lot easier to dump Leighton than it is to dump whoever you just made a boneheaded panic trade for because Emery went down for roughly a month.

All those goalie trade proposals were nonsense to begin with.

I would say that's a big understatement.

I assume Leighton goes right back on waivers as soon as Emery comes back. This isn't rocket science.

Ewwww. Watching him flail against us earlier in the year suggests to me he's not quite up to it.

Most certainly put the rumors down.

But if you're going to move Boucher in a trade for another goalie, getting Leighton as a temporary fix until Emery return makes sense. He's easy to get ride of in 5-6 weeks for a low cost.

my read is they want backlund to play, rather that watch. this signals bouch is gonna play close to all the games and Leighton is going to watch.

He's just a chip in the future trade that gets Conklin to Philly so he can play in the Winter Classic. Let the dominos fall!

Instead of grabbing another fringe NHL goaltender they grab one that flat out does not belong in the NHL...

The Flyers clearly plan on running Boucher for the most part until Emery is ready. I doubt Leighton is anything more than a safety precaution to be tossed away when Emery returns.

This pick-up was free, and doesn't necessarily change things.

It's not a bad move at all.
