What are you talking about? Bring a goal scorer in but get rid of Carter/Hartnell?

That's the impression I was under.

However, I'm not sure how long his is for.

I'm not sure why some people are so ready to give up on Carter.

That's a mistake waiting to happen if we get rid of him.

I am really confused by this post. How is bringing in a 4.28 GAA goalie a positive thing for this club?

The guy has been in 7 games this season and started 5. He isn't a career 4 GAA guy.

I wonder if Emery's GAA is even close to 4 GAA in his last 5 starts. I'd go with yes.

Laliberte made this guy look bad. All I know is last time we had Leighton, we blew. And now we have Leighton again....

This guy is a 3.00 GAA guy.

This is a fair point. But if there are going to be some games handed to a back-up through this stretch, I'm in the boat that would've preferred to see Backlund rather than Leighton. We seem to continue to be more cautious than I'd like about giving some of our Phantoms a shot.

That said, this is nothing for anyone to get up in arms over...if they were set on bringing someone in, I far prefer this to trading anyone.

He's also a backup goalie with NHL experience that costs us 300k.

This.

No matter what it was a ****** situation so this move is just as good as any other.

Me too. This doesn't preclude them from calling up Backlund for a day and sending him back though. Leighton could be the insurance purely for in-game switches.

I dislike Hartnell taking penalties. I love how hard he works, and even more Carter as of lately. But if we were to get a big name in return, someone who can put the puck in the net at will, I'm game for it(hoping for Bobby Ryan, but know it wont happen, and I know he doesn't score at will).

Claiming him kind of eliminates all of this "lets get a goaltender" thing. It was annoying, seeing that Boosh is doing fine.

He's dirt cheap and capable of being the backup when the number one gets hurt (like now for example). End of story. The waiver wire isn't going to have Brodeur on it.

For $200K shouldn't be a big deal, especially if he's waived again.

True that he is dirt cheap but he has already been through the #1 getting hurt and having to come in and play this season and blew it. Thats why Carolina got rid of him. From what I have seen in his play, he is very inconsistant and has been when he plays in the NHL.
Not sure how these try out contracts work but if he gets outplayed by Grahame or any of the others on the depth chart, I can see him being trade bait, or waived again. Comparing #'s and experience between him and Grahame, it would be cheaper to keep Grahame and not Leighton. Now if he has a Brodeur run, then maybe I would feel different.

When I found out they claimed him I said to my friend as a joke, "Well at least I can break out my Leighton jersey again." Funny that someone actually has one.

Leighton?! Problems solved!

No really, he's better than Graham, who was only signed to a pro tryout. Just an insurance policy who'll sit around on the Phantoms or allow Backlund to go back to starting. No biggie.

Seen both play. Think Grahame is better. I know people will say Grahame hasn't played in NHL since 2008 and he does have his faults with his game but there are also reasons why Leighton has been continuously passed around from team to team in both AHL and NHL for his whole career.
