Halak wants more time, on the block

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=302443

Thoughts? He's one of very few backups I would trust with more time, I like him more than I did Anderson last year. In light of that Khabby season ending speculation he would be a good fit to go 50/50 with JDD but I don't think that's gonna happen.

Anderson > Halak (and I thought that last year.)

but... Yeah. Moreau for Halak? Or even better.. Khabibulin for Halak + salary dump?

(I would probably still be gung-ho for our home drafted boys JDD and DD but Halak would be a good option to play about 40 games and let JDD take the lions share of the rest with DD getting a few games in.)

Before we add someone it would be nice to know the timeline for Bulin, although if we do add someone I prefer it be a Halak then a Vokoun. Halak at least is young and isn't expensive.

I dont see the point in trying to make a move for him. JDD has been just fine and once Bulin returns, he will be the starter and Halak would be facing less playing time again.

It creates a three headed monster when Khabby returns, if he does which is probable. I can see Halak going to the Wings or Flyers (like the article mentions). I wonder what Gainey's asking price is, back up goalies didn't get much last year. Oilers got a good prospect that turned out to be a key piece this year but that is more scouting our needs than getting the BPA.

I see an opportunity to dump one of our ugly contracts..

JDD + Moreau\Staios\Gilbert for Halak ++

JDD is french ,has much better stats and hasnt asked for a trade..
This makes him >> Halak

Halak would be getting plenty of games since Khabi is pretty banged up so that should make him happy.. If he stinks it up then we'll have Dubnyk to fall back on.

perfect example of buy low, sell high

edit: If Dubnyk stinks it up aswell then we'll just take Taylor Hall :p

Except that Holland has already said Detroit's issues aren't with goaltending, it's with goal scoring.

Halak wants a trade because he wants to be a #1. Does Halak ask for another trade in a couple weeks when Bulin is back?

Khabi has started more then 50 games only once in the past 5 yrs.. and it doesnt look like he'll be starting more then that this season... Halak wants more minutes and playing behind Khabi will give him that.

Islanders only have three starting goalies, maybe they can use a fourth.

Seriously it may be in their best interest to move Biron or Rollie for Halak.

I like Halak, but where does that put us once Khabibulin gets back? Even if he does need surgery, that would only be the end of his season, not the end of his career. What do we do with Halak/Deslauriers next year? What do we do with Dubnyk?

Unless we can move either Deslauriers or Khabibulin, I don't see any point in trading for Halak.

Sink or swim time for Deslauriers imo. Let's see if he has what it takes to continue to carry the load of being a starter or if he's only good enough for the backup role.

Speculated he was looking for a Top-6 forward, but then he said that being realistic, he got a 2nd for Huet from WAS and Biron was had for a 2nd.

Marc Pouliot + 4th!
