Probably pickled in a jar sitting in a closet at the Hockey Hall of Fame. Seriously, the guy was a blip on the hockey history screen. The hardest he worked was to get himself into the hall.
I thought Gil was a great NHL President for the brief time that he served the league. I think Ziegler retired in 92', and Bettman came in 93', so Gil served as the hero of 1992. We need more short-term 60-day league president/comissioners to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. I will list Gil's acclompishments:
-putting his foot down on the Lindros Trade. Those greedy Nordiques tried trading him twice! Thank god ol' Gil was there to "lay down the law"
-handing the Canadiens their 23rd Stanley Cup (the last cup Canada won)
-putting teams in great hockey markets like Miami, FL and Anaheim, CA
-trying to rename Lord Stanley's cup to the "The Honorable Gil Stein Award For Excellence", which was voted down by the owners.
