I also think the Oilers really ripped the Flyers off in that deal.
Its the players that the Oilers' have acquired in trade, etc., that are making the most difference on this team... and by acquired I do mean within the last few seasons. Management needs to ship out the charter members (so to speak), and work with these players that have yet to adopt the Oilers' seeming complacency and acceptance of mediocrity.

Potulny, Brule, Penner, Stone - Jacques (up from the minors); these are the people making a real difference.

Souray for Captain (if he wants to still be here - and witnessing his body language, I am starting to doubt that).

Come to think of it... the difference makers are those with the least - or weakest - connection to MacTavish; hmmmmmmmmmm .

And yes, Potulny is impressive - but as fans we need to learn to be comfortable with what he brings; and not be too hard on him if he doesn't turn into a 30 goal scorer. There are many aspects to the game. He is an affordable and effective player - precisely the type 'we' need more of.

I agree and have no problem with that. If he can contribute around 15-20 goals a year, and play with the same smarts and saavy that he's shown so far, he's perfect for 3rd line duty, and some spot service on the PP and top 6 in emergency. And all for probably 1.5 mill/year. What's not to like?

You don't want to overpay too much, but you don't want to get Glencrossed either.

Hopefully both Brule and Potulny also realize this roster is a good fit for them and they are bound to get good opportunities here.

I would go 1.4 on Potulny for 2 years and try and lock up Brule for another 3.

Wow, that's a pretty bold blanket statement. I'm pretty sure a PP specialist would have helped us last night. Not at the expense of Potulny's ice time, but I'd definately make room for Comrie in the line-up.

I totally agree with your comparison of Potulny and Stone. You have to find a way to keep them in the lineup if you want to win. If you don't and we want to sink the ship, then yah, send them down. I have really like what I see out of Potulny every game that I have seen. No, he isn't scoring tonnes of goals, or killing guys with big hits, but he does all the little things so well, and is rarely ever a liability.
