Tortorella needs a captain who can reinforce his passion, his anger, and his goals.

The fact of the matter is that the anger the coaches felt tonight was in no way shape or form translating to the players? Why? The consistency here is Drury as captain.

Sullivan was irate during the first period intermission and nothing changed. You have to think Sullivan and Tortorella stayed infuriated through the whole game, and they did judging by Torts' post-game conference.

This team, hell this coach needs a captain that can compliment his fiery style, not take away from it like Monotone this won't affect my bank account Drury.

My first line of attack would be to just strip Drury of a letter altogether and give an 'A' to Avery. I wouldn't give it to Gaborik because he's more like Drury then Tortorella in terms of PERSONALITY. Run the three 'A's of Cally, Prospal, and Avery because they are all Torts PERSONALITY guys and see who steps up out of the three of them, or if someone else on the roster steps up vocally.

Right now with Drury the buffer is out of whack.

Or maybe I'm giving to much credit to Drury.
One thing that bothers me were those rumors that Hank and Torts weren't speaking and that Torts communicated with Hank through Benoit Allaire. I hope they were just rumors because I do agree that Hank should have the C since he buys into the coach's philosophy.

Sure. I just think that, at least in the case of Lundqvist, if he wants to say something hes gonna say it. And if gaborik doesnt have the guts to say anything then why should he be the captain in the first place?

The kids I get.

You're right that Gaborik would too "Leetchie" of a Captain. I want a Messier-clone, someone with balls to say it like it is, take the bull by the horns, and choke midget Islanders. Ideas?

The Rangers have no one like Messier. At least it doesn't seem like it. No one who makes players afraid when he looks at you. That's something that very few players have.

They won't give Gabby the A until the start of next season, considering he is in his first year of a big contract.

This way you inspire/give a player something to look forward at the beginning of the season; a fresh start, so to speak.

If you give Gabby an A or C right now it looks bad. That kind of responsibility could have a subsequent psychological effect on a player. It might interfere with a players motivation.

Take Drury for instance. He was offered a guaranteed contract with $ and years + NMC and captaincy. Its like he was already given the world before he even stepped on the ice. Why should he care about anything else at this point?

Besides, Hank is the backbone of our team. If anyone deserves to wear the C its him.

Yet, this thread is allowed to stay up. Very inconsistant modding.

What I said in that post was strip Drury the C; and give it to Lundqvist.

Goalies can't wear the C on the sweather, but Henrik can make a C on his helmet like Luongo.

Drury is like a dark cloud of fail over this franchise. He can't be gone soon enough as far as I'm concerned. His ranger career has been an unmitigated disaster. Where are the clutch goals? I would settle for a goal at this point. What a joke!

The captaincy shouldn't be symbolic. Giving it to Gaborik would be a symbolic thing. I want a tangible personality change in the locker room. Lundqvist with the C would do that IMO.

I was thinking the same thing. If it continues like this it's only a matter of time ya have to think.

idk about that, if he didn't feel Drury was suited to be the captain he probably would've stripped him of it when he got here (see: Vincent Lecavalier)

What do you expect the guy to do with the limited role has has played of late?

And about half of the time he is on the ice he is in a place that is not his natural position (blueline/D) on the PP. To me in that situation you almost expect the mistakes to happen. I'm not a "fire torts" guy but sometimes I think he could do a better job of putting his guys in a position to get thier game going.

I don't think Torts expected Chris to have 2 goals at this point in the season either did he? I expected to see something outa this guy tonight, anything to prove why he should be wearing that letter on his sweater. His post game interview? He looked stoned.

I guess the only thing about wearing the C is scoring goals?

He's already tied last year's total in penalty minutes. And his role has been reduced to shooting the puck on net from the point and not give up breakaways and he can't seem to do that right. For $3 million a season (yeah yeah I know it's not his fault he's paid that much) he's a horrible value and needs to be off the books.

You would think.

I'm not here to defend Drury as a captain, but if you're going to say Gaborik should get the C pretty much based on production (I don't think there's much else about him that warrants the captaincy. I respect his ability to pretty much do everything right, but it's not like he skates noticeably harder than everyone else, works harder, etc. he just has miles more talent.) then how can you say Drury should be stripped of it for NOT producing?

I recommend you talk to some people on the Wild boards before jumping on the give Gaborik the C bandwagon. I think he's going to be a great scorer for us for years to come, but lets find another captain. He's got enough pressure on him as is being the only guy that knows how to score goals.

And what do we know about the locker room? Perhaps Drury is the perfect leader?

I want a screamer. Someone who will look you into the eyes and make you **** your pants then score a goal. Someone who will grab a midget's ass while wearing a hand-towel clearly not nearly big enough to cover his enormous manhood. I want someone like this guy:
