GAME PREIVEW
Kings @ Flames Game Notes (Not Available Yet)

Last 10: Los Angeles 8-1-1; Calgary 5-4-1.

Season series: This four-game regular-season series is tied at one with the Flames taking the first contest, 5-2, on Nov. 21 and the Kings winning 2-1 on Dec. 7. Both those games were played at Staples Center, while the next two will be at Pengrowth Saddledome.

Big story: No team in the NHL has been hotter than the Kings as they have lost in regulation only once since they fell to Vancouver, 4-1, on Nov. 26. However, Los Angeles has been winless at Calgary since Dec. 21, 2005. The Flames, meanwhile, are trying to avoid their first four-game losing streak of the season.

Team Scope:

Kings: The Western Conference-leading Kings have won five of their last six games and are definitely looking like a legitimate contender this year, but they’ll still be seeking to break a seven-game losing streak at the Saddledome.

Los Angeles’ offense has been paced by a pair of young superstars as 22-year-old center Anze Kopitar leads the team with 38 points and 25-year-old right wing Dustin Brown is second with 27 points. Their goaltending has been absolutely spectacular this season with 23-year old UMass-Amherst alum Jonathan Quick tied for the League lead in wins at 20 with New Jersey’s Martin Brodeur going into Wednesday night’s games.

Flames: Calgary has been playing fine hockey for most of the season, but it has definitely cooled down over the last few contests. The Flames are currently in the midst of a three-game losing streak, with their most recent defeat coming at the hands of the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.

But the Flames currently have 42 points, which means they are just a win away from taking the Northwest lead back from the Colorado Avalanche. However, right wing Jarome Iginla has been struggling to find the back of the net recently. The captain has not scored in a season-high seven games, although he has compiled 18 points over his last nine home games against the Kings.

Who's hot: Quick is 7-1-1 with a 2.25 goals-against average over his last nine games for Los Angeles. Right wing Rene Bourque has a goal and an assist in each of his last two games for the Flames.

Stat pack: The Kings are second in the Western Conference with an average of 27.4 shots against per game. Calgary is dead last in the League with a 45.6 percent of faceoffs won this season.

Puck drop: "Moving into first in the West is a real shot in the arm. We are starting to really believe in ourselves." -- Kings defenseman Sean O’Donnell after scoring the game-winning goal against the Oilers on Tuesday, breaking a 157-game goal scoring drought.

Were the Thursday Night Hockey "game of the week" on ESPN. Too bad we look like the monarchs and not the Kings for this game.

Those last 2 lines
At least there's a much needed break after this game.

Honestly I don't expect to win this game at all, but playing a good game and not getting blown out on national tv in Canada would be nice.

I just read that on Hammond. I think they are garbage. Purcell and Moller need to be higher, Moller especially. I don't know much about Elkins, but Purcell or Moller is a lot better than Harrold and don't need to be toiling on the fourth line with Ivanans... Dean said that Moller is being groomed and geared as a right wing... Make him one and stop bumping him for Peter Harrold...

Yeah, we'd better hope for a bout of food poisoning to hit the Flames or this is going to look like one of the games from the Crawford era

If we get anything from this game point-wise, it will be pure gravy. The team has earned their holiday break. I hope they play loose and relaxed tonight.

Harrold, on the 3rd line? damn you TM. I know Purcell has been laying an egg, but no way in hell should Harrold be on the 3rd line, let alone dressed.

Harrold should be on the 4th line to help cover up Ivanans lack of skat...well lack of everything.

But as others have said, it will be a nice x-mas present if the kings can manage to get at least 1 point tonight. doubtful but who knows.

Jones is injured

Quote:
Terry Murray said Randy Jones has been suffering from a headache and sore neck, since a hit from Edmonton’s Dustin Penner, and will not play tonight. Murray said Jones has not yet been tested for a concussion.

How about:
Parse-Moller-Purcell
Ivanans-Elkins-Harrold?

Sounds a hell a lot better than those.
This is a game that should really put Kopitar to test. He really needs to shine. (points wise)

I believe Murray's intent with putting Moller and Purcell with Ivanans is to have some size and physicality on their line as they tend to get easily pushed around.

Sorry, thought you said Moller and Purcell were playing with someone with physicality, however i fail to see who you are talking about. Unless by physicality you mean using one's stick to hook/trip/hold people then yeah i guess so.

If we win, we will either be tied for most points in the league or on top by ourselves, depending on how Pittsburgh does against Philly.

Granted, it would be an illusion, given all the games in hand that New Jersey and Chicago have, not to mention Washington, but I'd love to see it.

I'm hoping the Kings come out and play a defensive, boring as hell game to watch type game as its the only way i think they have a shot of winning this one.

I'm being homer, but i say 1-0 kings, Frolov with the only goal.

im actually pretty excited to see how we can do with so many rookies in our line up...to think if even with so many of our top players out to still be able to pull a win out would be extremely exciting.

Homer call, kings 3-2 with brown getting the overtime winner.

What a mess. Why not give Ivanans like 21 minutes tonight and HE can get injured, enough of this relevant-player crap.
