Biron for Beauchemin, 2nd round pick for Bourque

As soon as Rick DiPietro is ready for NHL play, Garth Snow is gonna trade Martin Biron.

The team is still in a phase of rebuilding and I think it would be good to add a routined top 4 defenceman who brings some toughness to the blueline but still is able to make plays. Therefore;

Trade proposals:

1# NY Islanders sends G Martin Biron to Toronto for D Francois Beauchemin.

I believe this trade will have great value to both teams. Islanders need a top 4 defenceman and Toronto could use a goalie to share ice time with Vesa Toskala as long as Jonas Gustavsson is out indefinetely - for what we know, Gustavsson could sit out for a long time, recovering from his heart problems.

2# NY Islanders sends their 2010 2nd round pick to Calgary for RW René Bourque.

Bourque has a point per game this season and I think he has got everything to supplement Tavares on the Isles top line. He brings size and hard work to the ice and in a line with Tavares, he could be a 30-goal scorer. The risk is, though, that he is playing under the right circumstances in Calgary and might not be able to transfer his play to Long Island.

If Calgary wants more than a 2nd round pick, add Jeff Tambellini to the trade.

Any words?

Tambellini doesn't add anything to a trade, value wise. If a 2nd isn't enough, Tambellini isn't going to change that. Why would Calgary want a guy who can't even consistently stay in the Islanders lineup. I would love to bring both guys in, but not sure what it will take.

i agree that tambs wouldnt push the trade over the top, however, i think tambellini SHOULD be in the isles lineup. sure comeau has played well recently, but tambellini has been playing well all season long. hes playing an entirely different style of game than the perimeter player he was trying to be...pretty much he was robbie schremp except faster and with a much better shot....yet schremp is in the lineup

im not so sure biron would bring back beau, but if it did, id be all for it. i wanted the isles to sign him this past summer

Value-wise for the Biron/Beauchemin trade it's very fair, but Toronto won't do it.

A 2nd round pick won't get you Bourque, he's going to resign with the Flames.

Whatever you're smokin'.... pass it over to me. That's some good ****.

Rene Bourque? Are you serious? He has been Calgary's best player besides Iginla. And you think the Flames are just going to give him to us for a draft pick? The Flames are a WIN NOW team. They have the pieces in place for a cup run. They aren't just going to give away one of their best players for nothing.

This. Bourque is to the Flames as Okposo is to the Islanders. (statistics aside)

Well, I wouldn't go that far. But I agree, Bourque is untouchable from the Flames.

away with you mister logic.

---

as burke put it "beauchemin was on the ice when we won the cup in anaheim. I know what he can do"

i seriously doubt beauchemin is going anywhere.

for biron? impossible.

biron was unwanted as a UFA and settled (relative to his previous salary and NHL standards) for a measly salary to play back-up (or a #3) on the worst team in hockey. He's done NOTHING this year to increase his market value.

Snow will be lucky to get a 2nd rounder for Biron, I expect a 3rd or a 2nd rate prospect.

Rene Bourque is a good young player on one of the top teams in hockey, expecting to go deep in the playoffs. He's pretty close to untouchable but I agree he's a guy that the Islanders could really use (plus every other team).

First of all....I think anything involving Biron is a pipe-dream. My prediction is that unless Biron fetches us a solid return, he will finish the season with the Islanders—and may even be re-signed.

Bottom line is DiPietro's most recent setback tells me that he could use more time in Bridgeport. I would rather see DiPietro stay in Bridgeport from now until the team comes back from the Olympics. Let DiPietro put the knees, hips and head through the gride and paces of the AHL for 10-15 games and see if all is well. A 3-4 game stint after more that a year away is not going to shake off the rust. They need to just relax, and if necessary, we keep Biron for the season.

I think Beaucheimen and Bourque will NOT be Isles under these scenarios anyway.

Beauchemin has been VERY VERY good for the Leafs, so he's not going anywhere, especially for an admittedly good backup for one season.

As for Gustavsson, he's back this week. Indefinitely was only put out to stop people from complaining if he was a day over his deadline. He's practicing and is expected to play one of the next 2-3 games.

So the Leafs are a definite no.

I'd immediately say yes to both deals. Which means that neither Calgary nor Toronto would ever accept them.

Well put, there is not much logic to each trade from our trading partners perspective.

Bourque has a point per game this season...
Let me get this straight. You think that we can trade a 2nd round pick for a point per game player? And if that doesnt work we'll add in Tambs, who is essentially a point per month player?

Do you forget that that Chris ****ing Campoli got a 1st round pick?

Seriously man, crack kills.

instead of Bourque how about Pominville? I like his game and thing he'd be a nice player to have on the wing.

First off DP is most likely done for the year once again so Biron would not be dealt until the trade deadline at best. First our minor league goalie would have to be healthy to be able to sit on on bench....

If Biron is dealt it will not happen any time soon.

Forget Bourque...Yes he would look great but not going to happen....UFA at the end of the year and will be offered a new contract.

Jokinen would look good back on the Isles but doubt that as well.

Now Phaneuf in the off season to free up cap space for The Flame is very possible... a lot of years at 6.5 mill per

Good ideas that will not happen any time soon.......

I'll get directly to the point: Neither of these deals make any sense for the Isles proposed trading partners. None whatsoever.

On the 2nd for Bourque trade...
The Flames have no reason to do the trade. Bourque is only second to Iginla on the team for total points, and the Flames are going to be one of the better teams in the playoffs. They aren't in a position to deal him, and he's been one of their key players so far.
