There are no OTL's in the playoffs.

We went though similar discussions in April. Played good enough to win, but when the game was there for the taking, they won 4 games, we only won 2.

Hopefully this is a sign that the Flyers have turned the proverbial page. This game and the win against Boston shows what the Flyers can do if they actually try. Hopefully this game lights the fire under their ***** and gets them playing this way regularly.

Suck to lose a game on SO but we played well..

We get Gagne back and keep this effort up and we will win more then we will lose for sure.

Agreed on all counts.

That said, its been all doom and gloom around here for weeks. We can all use a little optimism, so please allow some of us to feel good about the teams effort.

Positivity can be good for the soul...

Hard to expect effort when the team hasn't shown one for what seems an eternity.

brutal
SO is lame.
Love the way we played.
Officiating was brutal.

Go figure the pens score on both embellishment calls (especially McKee's)

it helps having a Lidstrom in front of your net....not to mention, they played an outstanding puck possession game....Osgood was solid which is all they needed...

Just got in from work. Sounds like we played a full 60 minutes? Wow...When was the last time we did that?

Anyone with a game recap for me would be sweet!

I see we got ****ed over by the refs quite often?

We did, very strong game, it's coming around and they're learning the system. Boucher was very good except for in the shoot out.

There are a lot of possible reasons that the team largely turned its play around between the last game and this one. Maybe Lavi's words finally started getting through. Maybe some of his new teachings started really taking hold. Maybe Richards words from after the last game got through. Maybe it felt good to be back home. Maybe it was a combination of things. There are lots of possibilities. But deep down, don't we all know that there is just one single reason?

Just got home from the game, and I've got a few observations:

- The Pens transition game is phenomenal. Alternatively, we need our centermen to be coming back to help. The flyers got caught often with their third man behind.
- Asham looks like he is hurting. I don't know if he is just gassed, but he looked slow and off tonight. Hope its nothing serious.
- Betts looks afraid to go into corners/the boards. Obviously because of the shoulder, but it is a concern.
- I like Kalinski more and more. He threw some solid hits and did the dirty work along the boards.
- Thought Hartnell played one of his best games of the year tonight, toeing the line. Same for Carcillo.
- Gotta do more work on the shootouts.
- Even though the Pens finished with thirty shots, I thought the Flyers did a good job of clogging lanes. Rarely did the Pens get chances for dirty goals. When they did, however, they capitalized.
- I saw the defense stepping up tonight, occasionally, at the blue line. Keeping skaters/pucks to the outside is all well and good, but we got burned a few times and have to do something about it.
- Loved the physical play.

Caught a puck during practice and was apparently shown on tv too. Saw Cote toss a little kid a puck after the kid was pointed out wearing Riles jersey. That was really classy to see.

Hopefully this is a stepping stone.

Regards,
Rick

I noticed that with Asham too, but it shouldn't be a big deal as he's phased back down to the bottom-6, where he'll be dealing with less minutes. I hope we keep Kalinski up, he's a workhorse and has been solid. Having Kalinski around should do wonders in ensuring we don't have to overwork Betts or Asham.

I think I was most impressed with how aggressive the Flyers were defensively with their sticks. In prior games, I've seen our players play too passively on the defensive end; in this game, we were sweeping pucks into corners and stripping players trying to deke. Obviously would have preferred the win, but considering the pile of suck we've been lately, I'm happy to see the effort and to get the 1 point.

LOL at Boucher in the shootout.

What the hell was he doing on Letang's shot?

Almost forgot:

The sheer number of passing without looking that this team is doing is horrendous. Giveaways in every zone are the result. I don't know if its adjusting to whatever system Lavi is putting into place, but it was bad. The top six guys were doing it, the bottom six guys were doing it, and the dmen were doing it.

That said, the stickwork and boardwork tonight looked very good. It is very much a work in progress, but there should still be concern.

Regards,
Rick

Yea when Gags comes back Asham should be the odd man out. Kalinski has earned his spot.

I thought you guys played a very good game and probably deserved a win.

I noticed too that the Flyers transition game looked a lot better tonight than a few days ago and they looked dangerous on the cycle as well. No way does a team with this talent level miss the playoffs, I fully expect to see you guys in April. Good luck.
