I posted this in another Hab-Hawks trade thread but the bad original proposal means it probably wont get looked at by most fans.

To Montreal
C/W Tomas Kopecky

To Hawks
D Ryan O'Byrne

This trade makes a lot of sense to me at least.

Kopecky has good size (6-3 200 Ib's) and isn't afraid to throw a hit. He show's flashes of top 6 talent but hasn't been able to put it together. He is solid defensively and is very useful on PK

In Detroit and Chicago he has never gotten the chance to be a top 6 winger or get PP time. In a place like Montreal with there current roster he can play a more offensive role.

For the Hawks we get a young physical dman who is signed to an affordable contract and has potential on our bottom pairing next year.

I think this trade would work for both sides.

Montreal is way too weak on the back end and O'byrne is finally looking like a good dman. No thanks.

I'm pretty sure the Hawks signed Kopecky because he's Hossa's buddy, I don't see him being moved

I don't think Montreal would be interested.

TO MTL... Carter + Leighton
TO PHI... Huet + 2nd Hawks + 4th MTL + Sweat
TO CHI... Halak + Lapierre + 2nd MTL

MTL gets Carter over Lapierre and Leighton as new BackUp
PHI gets a #1 Goalie + Future
CHI gets a #1b Goalie while Niemi plays very good. They also get a Center while Bolland is out and clear Cap Space

(it should work with the S-CAP)

any Thoughts? (I can't make a new proposal)

Just to lay it out:

Montreal get:
Carter and Leigton
for
Halak, Lapierre, 2nd, 4th

Chicago get:
Halak, Lapierre, 2nd
for
Huet, Sweatt

Phillyget:
Huet, 2nd, 4th, and Sweatt
for
Carter, Leigton

Philly could do alot better if they put Carter on the market. 40+ goalscorers don't grow on trees. Goalies the caliber of Huet do.

Like it from a habs perspective, but I would prefer Desjardins or Sanford as backup. I don't even think the Flyers are able to trade Leighton since he was a waiver pickup.

Value wise it may be fair, but the Habs have enough forwards once the injured come back. Is Kopecky really a better option for the the top three lines than the likes of Pouliot, Pacioretty, Skost and Dagostini? Probably not. He's really not an significant upgrade or downgrade on any of them.

Ryan O'Byrne is obviously still a project, but the Habs don't really have any big defenders who are good skaters, so I'd rather keep him and hope he develops into a top 4 guy.

Flyers probably aren't going to trade Carter, especially not for Huet. Huet could be an improvement over Emery, but not enough of one to warrant that contract. Flyers get ripped off in this deal.

Edit: Thanks for laying out the original proposal. I didn't mean to quote you.

As a Habs fan, where do we sign?

I think Philly is the dealbreaker on it though.

I'm a Habs fan and we'd have to add at least a first or Paccioretty to PHI. That's ridiculously low value for Carter.

Add Hendry and a 4th going our way to make it more Even. So it would be Hendry + Kopecky for 4th and O' Byrne

Kopecky is pretty generic IMHO. I don't really know what O'Byrne's upside is, but to me he's already a better NHL player based largely on the value of a generic defenseman being higher than that of a generic forward. Throw in a dash of upside left for O'Byrne and it's not remotely interesting.

I think the greater issue is that Philly has absolutely no interest in Huet. Especially not at the cost of Jeff Carter, who is in not on the trading block. If you're going to even come close to making an acceptable deal for Carter, you need to offer a player that is at least close to Carter's value. He's not going for a package of throwins.
