Buffalo & Edmonton

To Edmonton:
Drew Stafford $1.9Million

To Buffalo:
Patrick O'Sullivan $2.925M
+ pick or Prospect or whatever makes it fair.

Both Contracts end in 2011
next year Stafford will only make 88k less than POS.
Both players could use a change, Edmonton has wanted Drew for quite some time.
Currently POS has one more point BUT in 4 more games than Stafford.
Buffalo cannot take back more salary, which is why I put add a pick or prospect to make it more fair instead of adding a second player to the deal.

Stafford's playing well and I doubt the Sabres think he needs a change. The totals aren't there -- but then again, no one is lighting the lamp with much regularity at the moment -- but the chances are there.

As an Edmonton fan I would do this trade. We need some size on this team.

I don't think there's anyway Buffalo does this. They don't want to take more salary in exchange for O'Sullivan who isn't exactly performing this year

Neither is Stafford.....which is why a scenery change may be necessary

Stafford's numbers aren't there, but he's playing the best hockey of his career right now. Sooner or later the numbers will catch up, but he's starting to become the power forward which he was envisioned to be when he was drafted. It's not like there is zero progress in his game...it's way too early to be giving up on him. Consistency is of course the next step...and getting him away from Connolly who is just putrid right now probably will help the numbers a bit (until Ruff switches up the lines again).

I've always been a fan of Stafford's so I'd definitely do this trade, even though I'm not among the Oiler fans who think O'Sullivan is a complete waste of sapce.

I can't see Buffalo trading him though, at least not for that package. Isn't the organization as a whole trying to get bigger?

The same can be said for Sully....seriously you cant say that 14pts in 30 games is the best hockey of his career....

From watching the games...yes. Yes you can. Stafford has always been streaky unfortunately, but he is generating far more opportunities this year offensively than he ever did. Of course, when nobody on the offense is putting the puck in the back of the net that much, your numbers aren't going to be great, but Stafford has definitely been one of our best forwards this season.

He may not be playing his best fantasy hockey, but he is playing his best real hockey. And to me, the latter is more important.
