Unfortunately I think Mara sits... Oh to have 1 Amazing Dman and 6 average ones
Hamrlik, Spacek, Gil, Gorges, Mara, Markov and even MAB are amazing in their own ways. Some, more than others, but they all bring something great to the table.

This is true. Hamrlik is above average, Bergeron is a cannon but not much else, Gill and Gorges work hard... I know what you mean, but your defense is fairly underwhelming
Great, now O'Byrne's going to cost us 5 mil once he becomes RFA.

It will be a battle between O'byrnes and Mara when Hammer will be back. Gill spot is safe he's to important on the PK
Absolutely. Spot on!
Mara is signed for ONE year, is a serviceable 6th D-man, and that's it.
O'Byrne is young, needs to play through his mistakes like Komisarek did when younger and improve with time. However, if he struggles, Mara is there to step in.
There is only one LD position on the ice and only 60 minutes in a game. If a fully recovered Markov plays 25 minutes, and Hamrlik 22 minutes, Gill only has to play 13 minutes a game, and he will be the best 5th defenceman you could ask for in that case.
Gorges is #3, and can spell O'Byrne next to Markov is key situations, otherwise he is a great partner for Gill due to his speed and ability to avoid turnovers on the forecheck. He's good for 22 minutes at his age and conditioning.
Spacek is a solid #4 also good for 20 minutes.
If Bergeron plays an average of 5 minutes a game on the PP right point position, that leaves 13 minutes for O'Byrne.
Gill, O'Byrne & Mara will rotate. Against the speedier teams, Gill won't play. If O'Byrne or Mara take bad penalties, they sit. O'Byrne will be the easiest to justify sitting since he's young & still developing, so he'll have to play a notch better than Mara to ensure he plays more than he sits.
Gorges, because he's the quickest of the three and best in defensive zone coverage, has nothing to worry about.

? are you talking about the habs d.
i think markov hammer is a great 1-2, spacek will be better with markov back meaning less responsibility. gorges and gill pk specialist, obryne with markov is an opportunity to grow. this is exciting as this team gets and is something im absolutely pumped to see.
