Straying away from the dumb goalie debate, anyone else like what they saw in Pacioretty tonight? I thought he and Gomez looked good in limited time on the PK...maybe time to move Uselesstini off Gomer's wing and try MaxPac? I'm sure SKost can play RW for a bit.
Ok... the General is back (and how!), the goaltending is great, the special teams are utterly fixed (top-10 in both PP and PK now and trending upwards), everything else is hunky-dory.
Fair enough. I was just going on what Mr. Houde said at the end of the game, but he likely didn't have the official final stats. My point still stands though

Oh sure. No problem giving credit where credit is due. I'm just saying that Halak gets to play some of the weaker teams and hasn't played top teams often this year. But he did play a great game tonight. Even though the Isles did shoot for the big CH crest quite often it seemed, especially in the first (other than that one awesome save he had in the period).
Come on people. I'm a huge Price homer, love the kid and still think he's better than Halak, but you need to give credit where credit is due. Halak won the game by himself. The Habs were atrocious in the 1st period and Jaro kept them up by 1. Remember, the Habs scored 3 PP goals, they did **** all even strength. Halak was the Habs tonight.
We need SIZE up-front! The little guys, Pleks and Cammy can't win board battles! It was painful to watch again. That's also why Pleks took bad penalties, it's hard for him to win battles due to size. Andrei is the only one on that line that can muscle ppl off the pucks.

Time to work on that five-on-five game.
Agreed.
Our special teams are simply awesome, as is our goaltending. That, and Markov, is why we won tonight, really.
Five-on-five needs some work, but our specialty teams/goaltending will win us a lot of games.
Also, Halak is money against the Islanders. He really seems to have their number.

The little guys up-front keep losing board battles. And Gill, O'Byrne, Mara in the back-end have a tough time getting out of their own end and making break-out passes.
We desperately need a big body in the top 6 to help win board battles.

Saying Halak won the game by himself is a huge exageration. The Habs never had any huge breakdowns, most of the shots the defense was there to get the rebounds.
The Habs are playing great defensively the last month or so, it's playing that trap game and letting the other team have 70-75% time of posession that eventually does us in. JM's system is ultra passive.

I am a huge Price fan but that first period was a COMPLETE debacle defensively not that i think he won the game himself but Montreal had plenty of breakdowns.
Goaltending is not our problem this year, the last 2 games we scored 2 goals, tonight we scored 3.
JM's coaching style will not make many happy, in boxing terms it's a rope a dope.
No goal tending is not our problem. I've been saying the same thing for a while
But hey, you were making it sound like the defense delivered a good performance to Halak. Not true
Just say halak played well and we have zero disagreement. There were some really stellar saves in there regardless of which goalie one likes. Frankly I thought Halak bailed out the D a few times
I don't think people realize how brutally annoying it is to read them putting down and fanboy-ing Halak and Price regardless win or loss. It's ****ing painful.

Markov is back, so I'm hoping at this point JM progressively changes the ultra-passive rope-a-dope "let's lose games 2-1" system with something that's actually going to win them games rather than not lose them too badly. Something built on transition and counter-attack, say, if he must insist on allowing the opposition to enter the zone unchallenged.
Is Halak ahead of Price in all goaltending categories? Including shutouts?
someone Twitter me that answer please.
