Thanks for posting it, but I really don't think that this "rumor" is true, especially if Garrioch was the one who wrote it. Didn't see a name on the article so..

Personally I don't think there is any doubt whatsoever that messier is eventually going to GM this team. But, I feel it's going to be on GlenSathers terms, not the Garden Faithful.


With that said, I could see Gretz here too in some form Probably not as a coach, but maybe on the business side.

For the record, neither would be my first choice.

If I had a choice of coach for this particular club, I would seek out Lindy Ruff, and do whatever it takes to get him beghind the bench in NY.

If I had my choice of GM, it would be Brian Burke.

This is the future of the NY Rangers. You can bank on it unless Dolan sells the team.

Sather = President
Messier = GM
Gretzky= Coach

plus a gaggle of ex oilers/rangers in many key spots throughout the organization.

And the key guy here is Messier. The Captain. He delivered the cup and he gets to take over the team when he's ready.

Maybe not this year, or next year, but this is the future of the organization.

These guys are going to finish their incredible careers together. It is the future.

Will they be any good? No one really knows until they play the games.

Has Messier learned enough? Will he bring his INTENSE COMPETITIVE EDGE to an office job

Has #99 learned from his Phoenix experience? Will he do things differently?

Where does Leetch and Richter , Graves, Lowe etc etc fit in?


I dont think any of this is happening until the Patriarch Sather says so. But I do think it is the destiny of this franchise.

Will it work? Don't be too quick to bash it. No one really knows?

Do you still think Messier deserves a shot, at some point, because he brought the cup, as promised?

Sather as President and Messier as GM isnt only possible, but I'd call it likely.

But Jesus, if Gretzky ever winds up behind the bench, it would be a Brian Trottier-esqe type disaster. Only it would be worse because fans wouldnt have an excuse to hate an inept coach right away.
