Thats probably to me but I think Volchenkov is one of the best shutdown defenceman in the game also Brain Lee is a great defenceman that will become a top 4 defenceman very soon,I didn't loss any roster players so I like that trade from my team. But others might not.
From seeing Volchenkov night in and night out, I think he what be a great complementary player to ME Vlasic. Vlasic is known to make some mistakes in the defensive end, but is a great PMD, that's where Volchenkov comes in.
Eric Brewer stripped of the C | Kariya on the block
The Blues are still looking on making the playoffs, but are looking to move some veterans while doing so. Eric Brewer has been stripped of the captaincy and have placed him on the trading block.
Another veteran on the trading block is Paul Kariya. Though the Blues have no problem keeping him. They are looking at a younger option if available.
Either DJ King or Cam Janssen will be moved, and Darryl Sydor or Mike Weaver are available as well.
If you are going to ask for one of my young players such as Berglund, Eller, or Pietrangelo, be willing to pay the price.
Erik Johnson, TJ Oshie, David Perron, or David Backes are not going ANYWHERE!
The Canucks are not going to be major buyers this deadline, and are looking at making some moves that will build for next season. In layman's terms...Yes, we are selling this deadline.
On the block
Kevin Bieksa, Mikael Samuelsson, Cory Schneider, Darcy Hordichuk, Kyle Wellwood, Pavol Demitra, Shane O'Brien, Mathieu Schneider
Listening to offers for: Alex Edler, Cody Hodgson, Willie Mitchell (NTC), Please come with legit offers for these players.
Gonna start the UFA negotiations rec'd. Expect an answer either tonight or tomorrow.
Leafs have a few players on the block. Poni, Stajan, Stemps, MAyers, Exelby, Frogren, Toskala all can be had top a good home. Some will require a reasonable price (Poni, Staj), some will be firesale cheap (Tosk, Mayers, Frogren).
Others can be discussed. Only untouchables are Schenn and KEssel, but guys like Kaberle, Kadri, White will ONLY be considered if it fills one of our top needs (#1 C, young sniper, Elite prospect)
I've never heard that claim in my life. We're talking Vezina quality goalie, who puts up 60-70 games and 40 wins, 5+ shutouts every season. He's easily a Top 5 goalie in the league.
Nabokov for 4M?? What agent signed that? That is a joke.
I couldnt disagree more.
It's a long-term deal (takes him to age 40) to a team he likes (and has played his whole career with), so he took a little discount, but not that much. He won't get more than 5M on the open market, on a likely shorter term (granted in a GM game he probably would have gotten 10M/yr, but i mean realistically )

Yeah I agree,I think he gave me a home time discount.

No point in arguing it now that it's been signed so i'll shutup. Just think any franchise/Top Ten goalie taking 5 is already taking a fairly large discount.

Exactly the opposite.
Vlasic has little offensive ability, though he is improving, but he is excellent defensively and extremely, extremely steady in his own end (also too soft IMO- but he is 22). He plays a very similar style to Kimmo Timonen, but without nearly as good of offense. I agree he would make a killer compliment to Volchenkov however.
Nabby has been great this year, but I think a multi-year for $4 million would be something he would consider with San Jose. If he plays another three years with the Sharks he will probably be top 10 in wins, and leading euro goalies in that category. All with the team that drafted him in the 9th round- that'd be pretty impressive. Add a cup or two, and he could be hall worthy.
I love what King is doing with the Sharks roster, unfortunately, he is way over the cap (especially in Huskins counts until the deadline, which I believe he does). With the Sharks you have to strike a balance with maximum improvements to the defense without losing offensive depth behind the big 3.
The Edmonton Oilers are in talks of deadline deals for the likes of Cogliano, Gagner, Vishnovsky and O'Sullivan. Just some names in trade talks. We are looking to make a big splash through the deadline and also in the off-season as well. We are open to offers for almost everyone at this point.

Thanks,Volchenkov makes only 2.5 million and that pro rated is about .750 million and we had .632 in cap space and the waiving of Kent Huskins should take care of the balance and Brain Lee's contract pro rated, but if i'm incorrect i'll just move Clowe for a cheaper option.

Better find that out for me right now. If Huskins' pro-rated contract + your .632 cap space doesn't cover Volchenkov and Lee, the Volchenkov trade is vetoed.

The only fair comparable in that group is Luongo's new deal. Nabby may be good, but he's aging...so naturally he'll get less than Lundy, Fleury, Miller, Ward who are in their 20s, in some cases have already won Cups (didn't want to bring up playoff performance ) and have many more good yrs ahead.
I don't disagree at all that the per-yr # is lower than most would expect. But considering the intangibles (takes him to 40, only-team discount, cap lower than what it was a couple yrs ago and maybe going lower), I don't think it's unreasonable at all

I wouldn't be surprised if he signed for 4, honestly.

Okay,.632 in cap space.Anton Volchankov daily cap hit 12,953 = 518,120 over 40 days Brian Lee 6,606 over 40 games = 264,240 both = 782,240 Kent Huskins daily cap hit =8,808 over 40 days 352,320.My .632 in cap space plus 352,320 =984,33o so I'm under the cap.
Calling it a night. Not much trade talks going on in Boston. We're shopping Tim Thomas, preferably for a top line winger. We're also looking for a #1 defenseman, and for that Michael Ryder, Derek Morris, BOS 1st, and TBL 2nd are available.
