Valabik

Out for 4+ weeks with an ankle sprain. Oh well. Maybe we can get Exelby back

From Ben:

BenThrashers: Boris Valabik has a high ankle sprain in his left leg and will be out 4 weeks or so. Surgery might be an option.

one good thing about this is being able to assess Pops and Schubert for 4 weeks. should be enough time to figure out if either is worthy.

Surgery for a high ankle sprain? Never heard of that before.

You have now....

Quote:
ATLANTA -- Atlanta Thrashers defenceman Boris Valabik is expected to miss four to six weeks after having surgery to repair a high ankle sprain.

The Thrashers said Valabik, a native of Nitra, Czech Republic, had surgery on Thursday morning.

He was placed on injured reserve.

Poor Bobo. Dare I say this is the best thing that could have happened? This way, Bobo can sit on the IR and then play a rehab stint in Chicago without getting picked up on waivers, which I bet would have happened if he went down.

A leg injury worked well for Bogosian last season. A harbinger of good things to come?

So - what do people think of Boris' play so far? He was so terrible in the preseason. But he seems like a huge upgrade over Pops right now. What I noticed is that he seems to be skating. I mean he's moving out there. Heck, you can't say that about some of the forwards on the team.

I really don't know.

There is no question this play in his own zone is miles ahead of where it was last year. I just wonder if he can ever be truly successful in the JA system in the NHL. His offensive skillset is really holding him back right now.

Maybe Cunneyworth was spending quality one-on-one time with him as he rehabbed. Hopefully his play doesn't deteriorate as the practice time goes down. Bogosian was better after his leg injury and had the same rehab time on the ice alone. Who knows? Could be something to it.

He looked fine as #5-#6 for the one game I saw... And I still have hope about his offensive play. Chara developed that part of the game very late...

Maybe Popovic could benefit from the Cunneyworth rehab clinic too.
