Good size, good mobility. but bad technique. The best goalies make saves without looking like they are expending alot of energy, meaning they are very technically sound.

I'd just go with a mask of something not team related. Like kolzig and godzilla, or belfor and the eagle. In my case, john wayne.

Which is one of the reasons I never thought Niittymaki was anything special. Outside of the Olympics, he did that a lot.

Haha, wow I didn't realize that. I like Leighton more and more with the passage of each day.

Did you watch the rest of the play? Downie offered up a 40 mph floater straight at Leighton and it still got through. That was quite possibly the weakest goal I've ever seen.

What's comical about posts like yours is that you apparently don't get that we're all just screwing around for a bit of fun and nobody cares enough about Leighton to really criticize the guy. We'd all trade jobs with him in a heartbeat, but that doesn't mean we can't crack a few jokes along the way.

i think Leighton should adopt our technique as a slumpbuster with a paperbag design/a real paperbag as a mask

I guess we just have a differing sense of humor. Personally I don't think laughing at someone else's expense is funny.

I also suppose since I know a number of players personally that I have a different take on such things as well.

My concern watching Leighton was he seems to slide out almost to the boards when he makes a cross-crease save. The rebound cost at least one goal already (that I remember), and he got his neck saved on a couple others as he wasn't even in the crease!

Hextall,

This has nothing to do with name dropping. It's just having a different perspective when you hear fans take personal shots at players when you know some.

As for Leighton's play, I completely concur with Jules. He absolutely tries to do too much with his lateral movement and the result is that he is often caught out of position. What's odd is that at the AHL level he doesn't do that nearly as much.

They are professional athletes... Their job is in the ENTERTAINMENT industry. If they are not adequately entertaining the people that in essence pay their contract, then they deserve the criticism they get.

I have no problem with constructive criticism (like Jules pointing out a flaw in his game). What I have a problem with is people "laughing at someone else's expense" and I hold that true for sports figures and for "regular" people.

That said for the time being he is 1-0 and was the winning goalie in a month where wins have been scarce, so I think, for the time being, he's adequately entertaining the people.

He probably switched tape with Carter. So, now Carter's pucks always hit the back of the net and the pucks fired at Leighton either hit him in the chest or go high and wide.

I don't know what you're talking about, I'm on the edge of my seat every time a puck goes near that guy.

So he had a 2.15 GAA with that janky-ass white mask, then he got something a little snazzier and pitches a shut out. If he doesn't come out for the winter classic with a laser show mounted to his head he is an idiot.

Don't mix up goaltending with hot goaltending. He's played great, but he's only had 5 games.

I agree 100% with this statement.

That said there should be no debate that Leigton gets the nod in the Classic.

Who the hell said anything about goal tending? I'm talking about masks. Clearly the snazzier the mask the better the result, thus the need for the head-mounted laser show.
