I'm pretty sure he means the salary stays about the same throughout the length of the contract, especially if you read the rest of what he said.

All the talk earlier in the thread about Chris thorburn.... Thorburn seems to be one of the few Atlanta players lately who gives everything he has every night. The Greek Gods line has been really consistent this year. Reasoner's at +6, Thorburn's at +1 and Boulton's at -3. let Thor fill in with Ilya when he needs to. He's earned it.

Looks like money, years, and a NMC is what he is alluding to.

wrote about this on another board regarding possible Kovalchuk trade....some of the writers mentioned Philly & Wash....

Why he won't go to DC
1) Washington doesn't have the cap space
2) How does this trade benefit them? Ok, so they add Kovalchuk, they already have Ovechkin. You're trading for a strength?
3) The Caps need blueline help & goaltending more so.
4) Why should the Caps blow up their roster to acquire him? You are talking minimum, 1st round pick, major impact player & top prospect.

Why he won't go to Philly
1) Philly doesn't have cap space nor can they create it. Carter is the only one without a NTC of real value. His cap hit is lower than Kovalchuk's.
2) The Flyers don't have the assets to trade. See my formula above.

Teams that could be good trading partners for Kovalchuk
1) LA--has cap space & is assembling the pieces for a Cup run. A trade for Kovalchuk puts them on the short list of Western Conference contenders. Think maybe Frolov, 1st round pick & Jack Johnson for Kovalchuk.
2) Colorado--further away on talent, but good cap space. Possibly Wolski, 1st round pick, & Milan Hejduk for Kovalchuk.

...........just because someone somewhere sooner rather than later will bring this up

The Triple K line, not to be confused with the guys in the pointy white hoods

Kovalchuk - Kadri - Kessel

In the context of the interview, it sounds like Waddell wants a front-loaded contract while Grossman and Kovalchuk want the same number for each year.

It's usually the player that wants the money up front because they can invest it and make a return over the subsequent years.

Not in this case...

I guess he wants the same amount closer to retirement?

however in this case both sides know kovalchuk is walking away with a ton of money. waddell wants to keep the salary as low as possible while kovalchuk wants max salary...apparently throughout the entire deal

apparently waddell said on the thrasher's radio broadcast tonight that both sides had agreed on number of years but not money...waddell doesn't want to hamstring the team by caving all their money to one player. all signs point to re-signing if they can get kovy to come down to around 9 million by the olympics

Boston seems like the most logic EC team.

They need a winger BADLY.
Savard is Kovi's former center.
Bruins have 9 picks in top 2 round in the next two years.
They have some good young players

same position as one Phil Kessel, Bostonfan, and how exactly did Chiarelli deal w/ PK, the same exact way Waddell is dealing w/ Ilya....

I listened to the interview last night. I didn't ever hear him say that.

I'm pretty sure Savard centered Hossa's line while he was in Atlanta, not Kovy's

The Thrashers don't need picks, they need players and/or prospects that can contribute immediately. Picks won't help when making a playoff push, which barring a complete collapse, is somewhere the Thrashers will be this season.

playoff teams don't reward 4th liners by benching 30 goal scorers

Playoff teams don't have 30 goal scorers that deserve benching.

little didn't deserve benching and anyone who knows how to look past stats and see how well a player is playing will tell you that
