To Hawks
C Matt Cullen

To Hurricanes
RW/LW Tomas Kopecky
2nd round pick (Chi or Cal) in 2009
3rd round pick 2011

Hawks could use a C because I dont feel Versteeg is a better winger and being stuck at C stiffles him.

Kopecky is a useful player but Hawks cant afford him. Basically we throw in a 3rd for them to take him off our hands. Plus I think that would be enough for us to afford Cullen for rest of year

Sharp-Toews-Hossa
Versteeg-Cullen-Kane
Ladd-Madden-Byfuglien
Eager/Bickell-Fraser-Brouwer

And after Bolland returns

Sharp-Toews-Hossa
Versteeg-Cullen-Kane
Ladd-Madden-Byfuglien
Eager/Bickell-Bolland-Brouwer

2 great offensive lines + 2 offensively capable checking lines

David Bolland, Brouwer, or both on the 4th line ? Montréal should be step in and offer to help with either one of them, or both. Too much talent on the 4th line if that's the case.

Bolland is better than Buff. Bolland and Brouwer are better than Ladd.

Madden would drop to the 4th and Bolland would go on the 3rd line. Brouwer is one of those players who is effective whatever line he is on so i have no problem with him being on the 4th line for a bit.

At this stage in their careers, Bolland is a better 2nd line center than Cullen, so when Bolland comes back he should be on the 2nd line. Cullen can sit if he can't handle the 4th line. I'm looking forward to Bolland's return and if we do happen to have Cullen, then I see the lines like this:

Sharp-Toews-Kane
Ladd-Bolland-Hossa
Versteeg-Madden-Byfuglien
Eager-Cullen/Fraser-Brouwer

This makes sense from both perspectives IMO. A 3rd for taking on Kopecky's deal is pretty good value, as he could still fill a role on Carolina next year and isn't outrageously priced at $1.2 million. A 2nd is probably what Carolina would get for Cullen at the deadline (though maybe more of a mid second rounder would be more realistic) but the additional 3rd makes it more enticing.

I am not sure Cullen would bring a 2nd at the deadline. Making it Kopecky AND a 2nd is overpayment.
