[Wade Redden]Is this possible?

Can he retire at the end of this season and come back 'out of retirement' during free agency month looking for a team? We get him off the books and he still gets to play in the NHL....elsewhere.

This team is doomed with 6.5m cap locked up in a 3mill$ player. I don't want to banish him and effectively end his career in the NHL because I feel bad for the man... But this could be a solution that has both sides leaving happy.

Because if he didn't we would banish him into the AHL.

Well would you as a professional hockey player retire from the game if you were banished to the AHL but still guaranteed to make on average 6.5 mil a year till the end of the contract?

I sure as hell would continue playing. And not even give a half assed effort at it considering the money is guaranteed.

I guess that's the difference between me and you. I play the game because I love the game. I would give up the 3-4mill a year playing with a smaller contract in the NHL than a 6.5m contract in the AHL

Stop trying to play it off like your the saint of hockey. Nobody in there right mind would retire and then unretire for less money.

Your crazy if you think Redden would be more happy playing in the AHL for the WOLFPACK... Than for an NHL team. I'm not saint. But these guys love to play. Money isn't everything.

Regardless, back on topic. Does the NHL allow this?

He would be playing...in an easier setting making the same money with less scrutiny from fans.

Awards:
If he retires and elects to come back, he comes back under contract to us. Retiring doesn't make your contract null and void.

And we've had the Redden discussion sooo many times already. Do we really need one more thread on it? I don't think so.
