thank you! I was afraid no one was going to see the fallacy in the logic...

when comparing a trade you compare the players traded, not how the teams have performed since that trade...that makes no sense unless they haven't done any other changes since that trade.

if you go by the pretender's logic, the original nyi-panthers trade with luongo was a wash

panthers before luongo
last three panther seasons with luongo

and nyi, you could argue they have done better since the luongo trade but it isn't because of the luongo trade.

anyways, point is, it was a terrible trade. we traded a top 5 goalie who wanted to stay in florida for a washed up power forward, a back-up goalie and a serviceable defenseman. we then had to trade a 1st and 2nd rounder to fix the problem for an overpaid (imo) goalie. so yeah, that was pretty terrible.
