Don't screw with the question for your own benefit.
The real question he should be asking is would you feel confident with a healthy Parent playing in the top four if something were to happen (trade/injury/etc) to Carle or Coburn?
And I'm telling you right now, you are completely wrong in your assessment of our players.

I'm going to do you and the other mods a favor and just delete this thread from my view.
Today no, no game. Wednesday maybe not, may still be hurt.
Seriously though, I'd say yes. I wish he would work on being a little more physical but defensively he would be great for the future to put with a guy like Bourdon. If he ever works out that is, since he might need someone to cover his ass when he screws up but his offensive game may force him into a lineup, think Brian Campbell.

of course i mean if he is healthy. before his back spasms.
No the questions isnt do i feel confident him playing in the top 4. the question i skill wise is he top 4 dman right now.
wtf...Carle is going to be waived to bring up one of Marshall/Bourdon/Syvret??? Have you not been watching Carle? hes not the greatest but hes playing much better than last year and in now way are any of the guys on that 3rd pairing better than him, not even close.

My mistake, i thought you said moved down. I still dont thinkt hey will move Carle if they are in the playoff hunt. I could see them moving him in the offseason to make room for Marshall and be able to give a raise to Parent and Coburn. Although if Coburn asks for too much they may send him on his way. Parent for 1.3 and Coburn for 3.2 both on 4 year deals would be nice. 4.5 million for a possible future 2nd pairing.

Coburn doesn't deserve much of a raise at this point. If Coburn gets over 2.5, I'd prefer it be on a 1 year deal (without currently knowing when he hits UFA). He really needs to decide if he's the top 4 guy he was 2 years ago, or the underacheiving guy he currently is.

If the season keeps up like it has been (meaning he keeps blowing defensively) and he asks for over 2.5 in the off-season then I really wouldn't mind letting him go.
As for Parent, I believe he's a solid second pairing guy. His biggest problem right now is injury history.

I don't think he deserves anywhere near 2.5 for his play. Coburn has been an absolute liability through the first half of the season. Unless he makes significant strides toward a return to form, I don't want to see him netting anywhere over 2.
And yes, I think Parent is a top 4 d-man in terms of his ability to play a shutdown role. When he's healthy, of course.

I agree but I dont see him getting any less than 3 million. Guys like Carle are getting 3.5 after 1 good season. Jones got 2.75(although a bad contract) after 1 good playoffs and then there's guys like Jeff Finger who gets 3.5 million and was never anythign more than average. Coburn is a 24 year defenseman who has played 23 minutes a game since he has been with this team and never played anything less than on the 2nd pairing. He's going to play a lot of minutes in every situation and put up around 30 points a season with a possibility of more. I dont see any way they sign him for less than 3 million. it doesnt mean I agree with it but the market for dmen is what it is and unless Homer brings youtube vids of coburn getting turned like 10 year old squirt, he's going to get a decent raise.

like i said hes a fourth to like fifth dman. on some teams hed be top four, on others hed be fifth, but teams aside, i think hes a close to but a little under par top 4, but above average bottom 2. So basically its like 4.5
He skates well, puts himself in the right places on the ice, has a good stick defensively and has been more physically assertive this season. The only weak spot he hasn't improved are his passing and shot. He'd definitely be a top four defender on the Islanders or another team that is still looking to really develop or add to their D corp. On the Flyers he is the fifth guy, behind Braydon (people over-hate Coburn). If he can shake the injury bug, I don't see how he doesn't develop into a solid second pairing defense man in the next couple of years.
