The Kings are giving Purcell way too many chances...Moulson did nothing in 7 games last year and he is banished to the AHL...Purcell has played 10, 40 and 30 games in the past 3 years and 8 goals and 25 assists total.
At some point, that is unacceptable for an offensive player....I don't care if he is young or not.
You're missing the point about Quincey. I wasn't making a point about whether you called it or I called it, but rather to trade a player when it's most appropriate.
Besides, you're kind of contradicting yourself. On one hand you claim to understand that hockey is "all business". But yet, you also claim that if we were to trade Purcell at his highest value
And by the way, the main factor in determining the value of a player isn't the calendar. I have no idea where you get that from.

At some point they will figure out that no amount of will power or Lucas magic in the world is going to make Purcell into the goal scorer they wanted him to be.
Right wing Justin Williams, who broke a leg Saturday, is scheduled to see team doctors today and might need surgery, Coach Terry Murray said Sunday. Winger Teddy Purcell, a healthy scratch Saturday, practiced in Williams' spot on the top line and is likely to play there today.
So I guess if surgery's required we'll be lucky to see him again this year, at all.
That's what happened to me. Infection showed itself on the ankle screws 5 months later so they took out the screws and gave me medicine. Two weeks later, the infection comes back even worse so they took all of the metal out. This put me back on crutches for another 3 months along with a 2x daile home-IV hookup to fight the infection.
This was worse-case stuff, along with the fatty embolism at the time of the break, but I am perfectly fine and have pushed my leg harder since than I had before the break. He will be fine and this isn't career-ending stuff but it's extremely optimistic to expect him back this season.
Yes my son was on the picc line for six weeks for infection as well. The fact that it is a break, once healed he should be good to go as you say. But from TM's speculation that he needs surgery it sure sounds like it could be fib and tib, and like you say it would definitely be for the remainder of the season.
My mom broke her leg in a similar fashion while roller blading. She will always have a metal rod in her leg. And she walks with a slight limp because of it. Let's hope JW's injury isn't nearly as bad.
I honestly don't expect him to play again this season. Hopefully the doctor has a verdict as optimistic as Murray's.

Lombardi needs to make a deal sooner rather than later. We have 14 games in January which is more than enough to complete a winter slide into the cellar. This team has show a lot of heart despite the injuries but you need some talent to go along with it.

ain't many teams going to be too willing to make a deal.
I haven't been too excited about Purcell either, but the best way to give him a real chance is to let him play in a stable line situation for awhile.
Smyth is obviously the kind of guy who can help raise a linemate's game.
Give Purcell a true shot on this line for a stretch of games, don't be too quick to push a panic button, and emphasize lineup stability, the Kings will probably make the best possible showing in the near future with such a strategy.
Those of you that are speculating a career-ending injury need to get a grip. I think another serious kneeinjury for Williams would have been much worse than a broken leg.

Just get used to him being done for the season.
I'm not saying career-ending as in "will never play in the NHL again". Depends however on just how much of a career 30 games per season make.

Very few indeed. Toronto is 14th in the Eastern Conference and is three points out of a playoff spot. Right now, the only teams I could see making a deal are Carolina, Edmonton, Columbus (which they already have) and Anaheim. I highly doubt Edmonton or Anaheim deals with us.
So those of you who have been talking about Ray Whitney might be right in the end.
We did ok without both Smyth and Simmonds for awhile so, I'm thinking we'll be ok without JW even though it may be for 3 months.
Believe in Da Tedster boys and girls.
Edward (Teddy sounds like the name of someone you would be endeared to) hasn't shown me squat so far, and I'm not expecting that he will this time either. I'll be pleasnatly surprised, No, shocked, if he can finally put it all together. But let's face it, his AHL all-star game hasnt made its way to the NHL yet, and at his age, it seems unlikely that it will.

For how many more seasons?
Certainly not revisiting the trade, but to say this guy is injury plagued is not overstating the obvious. Sucks for sure. Hope its just the fibula.
Simmonds should really be bumped to the first line indefinitely. He has the energy and board skills to make a good substitute for Williams. Plus, he has already done it before. The lines should be:
