What an honour for Drew! Just awesome. No Green, Phaneuf, or Bowmeester!

That's absolutely amazing, over the caliber of those players. Wow great for Doughty.

Very big deal for Doughty. They obviously want to invest in the future of Team Canada by getting him the experience he needs. Absolutely thrilled he got chosen.

Sad to not see Smyth make it. I know it was a long shot with being hurt. But, it would be awesome to see him, also.

But, we got our awesome Doughty who we get to watch. I hope they don't win Gold though

Wow. Certainly deserved to make Team California (er I mean Team Canada) but I really thought his age would have kept him off.

Boyle, Doughty, Niedermayer, Perry, Getzlaf, Heatley, Marleau and Thorton.

Congrats. He's going to learn quite a bit from that blueline roster.

That's pretty amazing really, a 20 year old defenseman made it over the likes of Jay Bouwmeester. Well deserved.

Doughty made the greatest strides in the past four months. It was originally thought that his invitation to the orientation camp was merely a courtesy, given that he was 19 at the time, an age when few defencemen play regular minutes in the NHL.

Doughty turned 20 in early December and his maturity, playing for the improving Los Angeles Kings, convinced the staff to include him on the team. The expectation is that Doughty will be the next generation's Scott Niedermayer, a fixture on the international scene for Canada for a decade or more.
Doughty getting some heavy praise.

As a Canadian and a Kings fan, that's what I hope for for Doughty. I also think winning Olympic gold will be invaluable for us. Great long-term return on this investment.

Also, can we now please stop with the "Wouldn't you rather have Bogosian?" threads and questions?

great news, what an honor for Dewey.

Downside is he has to be teammates with Perry, Getzlaf and Pronger

Also, makes tonight's game against Calgary and their 3 snubbed D-men a little more interesting...

Congrats to DD08.

With a blueline corps that includes Scott Niedermayer, Chris Pronger, Shea Weber, Dan Boyle, Duncan Keith, and Brent Seabrook, that is some pretty rarified air young Mr. Doughty will be breathing.

It says alot that Drew got the nod over Bouwmeester, Green and Phanuef. Its going to make it that much harder for me to root against them, but its only when they play USA.

This goes to show that the Team Canada scouts actually scouted a West Coast player. This is awesome for Drew!
