Well, cracking the lineup of Team Canada was the hard part. Now, just play your game Drew and you'll be a member of Team Canada for years to come.

I also think the fact that kings are doing well as a team also helps.

Yzerman quote:

"There's no question there's some tremendous players, and Mike Green is an outstanding offensive defenceman," he said. "We felt that Drew Doughty in this case is a little bit more complete a player, and based on how he played at the world championships … that he was a better fit for us."

Mike Green has got to be wondering what he has to do to make the team. It is apparent that Canada pushed for well rounded dmen.

He could request a trade to the Devils. Boudreau is not a defense-first coach (arguably not a defense-second coach either) and unfortunately that hurts Green's chances somewhat.

Terry Murray should get some credit for Doughty's selection. I'm not sure Doughty makes the team if Crawford was still the coach here.

Question: What do you think about the possibility of being on opposite sides?

BROWN: “It’s always fun. Obviously there’s a fine line. It’s fun to compete against your teammates, but at the same time, you play hard and once they put on that jersey, you don’t really differentiate them from any other player on the other team. That could cause conflicts, not so much personal between me and Dewey. If something were to happen, that’s part of the game, and when he plays for Canada, I don’t think he’s going to differentiate between me and any other player, if I’m named to that team.”

Question: So you need to keep your head up, in other words…

BROWN: “I just have to watch out for his butt. That’s all he seems to hit with. I’m not too afraid about his body checks. It’s his hip checks.”

Doughty is awesome ... wish the Oilers had someone of his pedigree and calibre.

Look forward to cheering for Drew as a member of Team Canada!

Congrats Drew!

Wow, talk about motivating Bouwmeester & Phaneuf for tonight's game.

Team Canada looks to the future by picking Doughty, they surely want him for multiple future Olympic teams so now's the time for him to get his first taste of Olympic competition.

Kings are in the first 3 news articles on nhl.com's front page.. at least until the early games finish tonight. An article on all of the Olympians, on Smyth not making it and on Doughty making the team. www.nhl.com

I believe it might have been Babcock at the press conference today that said Doughty has ice in his veins, but unlike other offensive Dmen, he is not high risk.
I believe they also said they felt he was the more complete player.

If Smyth had stayed even close to the clip he was on, while also staying healthy, he'd be probably be there.

That seems to be the consencus around the league. The injury pretty much took him off the radar and out of the minds of team Canada. Many feel he may be one of the 4 injury replacement players that won't be publicly named.

Wait, where did everyone who was actively hoping Drew would NOT make the team go?

They're busy praying he comes back healthy. At least that's what I'm doing.

I'm happy for him, but if I had my way I'd ban anyone on the Kings from participating in the Olympics, WJC's... any of these tournaments. What's more important for this team's overall development? That a few guys win a medal playing against each other, or that the whole team makes the playoffs?

This team has GOT to get back into the playoffs ASAP. Doing it this season isn't critical, but given their start, it'd be devastating to the team if they didn't make it... and it would make the climb next season even harder.

If Doughty gets hurt... we're ****ed this year. The Olympics are one giant risk factor I would give anything to eliminate.

Moreso Smyth than Doughty. Doughty's young and a horse on the blueline, but Smyth only has so much gas left...I want every iota of his energy for the regualr season and beyond.
