It seems that the finnish PP is finally working properly: 8pp goals out of 10 powerplays

How about the Finnish PP! 8 goals of their 10 on the PP!

EDIT: you beat me to it, Stanley

I thought Simila would have played this one, oh well.

He impressed me today. He has a nice shot, both slapshot and wrister and he has decent hands too. Slowish, though. Anyway, it's nice to see Finland produce a d-man with both offensive potential AND size. I hope he pans out...

Otherwise, I refuse to read too much into this. Sure, the PP worked well, but it's meaningless considering the opposition. I think it's actually a bit worrying that Finland only managed to score 2 even strength goals, though. Then again, they played so much PP that they barely had time to even try on ES. On that subject, I thought the refs gave way too many weak penalties to Austria. I normally don't mind when my team benefits from them, but here when I was already feeling sorry for Austria, it just made me feel even more sorry for them.

I just hope Finland doesn't get overconfident.

With all respect, Austria was awful today... Good for Finland as they scored lots of goals and that may have boosted their self confidence for the rest of the tournament.

-I was impressed with Niemi as well, he has improved his game a lot from not-so-good-game against the Czechs.
-Granlund is finding his game again, some great passing... The whole line was playing well.
-Elo, Vatanen, Laakso and Rask all played a good game.

Sweden-game is starting to look exciting one as Finland has played at high level ever since that horrendous first half against Czech Republic!

Man, I hope Finland beats Sweden because I am getting worried about Czechs beating Russia. In that scenario Finland would likely get eliminated if they don't win against Sweden.

Who?

Just kidding but he has been rather invisible in all the games I've seen.

He's playing in a very defensive role. We already have lots of offensive talent in our D with Vatanen, Eronen, Laakso, Näkyvä and atleast today Niemi. The real weakness in our roster are defensive defensemen and because Kivistö has the size and positions himself well, he has been chosen for that role. In his own club Jokerit (coached by the same coach as Finland U20) he has played a similar simple defensive role. I'm not saying he doesn't have any off. skill but right now he's needed for a different role.

So, I think it's a good thing that he's been invisible in the games he's played

Yeah.

It's always a good thing when a defensive defenseman is invisible.

Someone tell me about Nattinen. Will he make the NHL? 3rd line checking center? How is his skill level?

Why? Wouldn't it create a tre-way tie for 2nd in which Finland is 2-0?

Yes it would. I.e. if Czechs win by three or more, Finns have to get at least a point from Swedes.

From what i've seen him, he's not flashy but has some hands, good passing skills and vision. He's got the height but he needs to get more strength. His defensive game is sound. He's got the potential so I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the NHL one day!

Ah, I messed up some of the results. Thought Finland beat Russia, which wouldn't even put them in the tie, because they'd be undefeated.

Latvia and Austria are the wipping-boys of this tournament.

Last game, yes. Others no.

I won't be suprised if the Swiss and the Latvians get relegated...not the Austrians.
