Kotalik looks like a shell of a player out there. I think Torts has broken him, not all players can handle a coach like that. Higgins I think we can hope for a pick since he's UFA.
I agree get Higgins out of here. Some think he's enjoying the NYC night life a bit too much. He made some comments about not liking that his father and brother are too close to him-in the same city.

i havent read that...but playing for your home town team, even if you arent a fan of theirs, is always a little tougher, expectations raise. You get the feeling he would be the perfect small market player, he tends to sorta feel the weight of the world out there, at least thats my thinking. playing on a team like Columbus, Atlanta, etc, he might really become a force, because he quite literally does EVERYTHING you could ask for in a hockey player with the exception of finishing...and i dont care how bad your hands are, you cant make it to the NHL if you consistently whiff on completely empty nets the way he has. To me with him its mental, not physical.
its the same problem i have when trying to score, if its a glorious opportunity i seem to screw it up, im much better at scoring when you dont expect it...dont ask me why.

He's always been inconsistent and prone to going into emotional "funks" on and off the ice. I've been saying that since day 1. If several seasons with Lindy Ruff didn't break him, I doubt Tortorella has managed to do it in 4 months.
The guy is the definition of a PP specialist. "Specialist," meaning "useless at any other time in a game." Obviously except for the skills competition.
I still maintain that Higgins has some value around the league. The scoring potential is there, it's proven, and he does other things on the ice that make him useful even when he's not putting up points. A relatively inexpensive contact that expires this summer makes for a good deadline acquisition.

Higgins is a player you could definitely get some value back for..the question is, is Sather looking for the future, or is he looking to fix this year.
That could be the defining question of the next decade...I think this year would be the PERFECT year to actually tank and get that elite player. IMHO Taylor Hall > Tavares...which is really saying something.

Brashear doesn't beat up anyone anymore because he doesn't fight anymore. He's a bum and we should try to include him in a trade if possible. He is nothing, but a detriment to this team.

i believe if this team REALLY sets their minds to losing games, they can do it...i mean, look how well they achieve that goal when their intentions are the exact opposite...

I dunno, even then I think it would be difficult. We're 13 points up on them right now, so it's tough to assume that they'll start climbing while we start falling.
Plus, we have to contend with Edmonton who has lost their best player for the entire season, as well as their starting goalie for several months, if not the whole year.
You look at this roster and shake your head because there are guys here that should be doing better. All it takes is a few games --as we just saw before last night-- and this team could get hot. Not to mention just how close everyone is right now. A 3 game win-streak could easily put us in a playoff spot.

Hey guys, just my 2 cents from a Habs fan who followed Higgins for a long time.
I see that his reputation of "partying" a little too much has followed him from Montreal to New York? He used to frequent the clubs quite often in Montreal which people frowned upon a little over here. But thats only one side of Higgins and frankly, if he was producing, people woulden't care as much.
Chris is not the same player that he once was in Montreal. He had a serious knee injury that made him lose a gear and his speed has obviously suffered. He used to have that extra step that gave him so many scoring chances. He has never been a great finisher, but since he had so many chances, he would rack up the goals. He still had a season or two after the injury in which he scored 20 goals, but a lot were scrambles in front of the net. He has just stagnated and actually declined the last few years which is sad because he had a lot of potential.
He can still be a good third line checker that can play on the pk and can chip in on the first 2 lines in case of injury, the thing is, does Higgins know that? Hopefully his trade to New York has opened up his eyes that he's not the offensive player that he fancied himself to be.

His speed and ability to create chances have both been strong suites for him. He creates more scoring chances than anyone else on this team, he just can't finish ANY of them. I don't think I ever saw him play before the knee injury you mention, but I've been fine with his speed and the chances.
He definitely would be a great 3rd liner and it's a pity that our team is full of them otherwise I wouldn't mind re-signing him to play on the 3rd line. He's been put out of place on the top 2 lines far too often this year.
