Any possibility of Cherepanov impacting on the Ranger's WJC decision for Grachev ?

My apologies if this should be in another thread.

I was wondering if Cerepanov's death and overall handling by the Russian hockey federation could have contributed to the Rangers not sending Grachev over to the WJC....

My memory could be off but the Russians were difficult about letting Chere come to the US when it seemed a real possibility that he could be on the Ranger's roster.. He seemed to want to come over but would always say the right things regarding his situation there.

It's just speculation on my part that the Rangers may be giving a little pay back to Russia in holding Grachev back. I'm wondering what others thought about this as a possibility...

In a word, no.

I guess it's possible, but we'll never know.

Probably not. One player is under contract with this team, one wasn't.

The Rangers were definitely wary of him getting back with his Russian comrades especially Nikita Filatov. it's all risk and no reward for the Rangers to have let him go.

If Grachev got to play against Sweden, US and Canada (this is presuming that Russia wouldn't have lost to the Swiss with Grachev in the line up), it would be a good experience for him because the talent on those teams is superior to those of the AHL teams. Less experience, but definitely more raw talent.

It would be a worthwhile experience for him.

Rubbish. Grachev talks to/chats with Filatov almost daily. He doesn't need to be around him to be influenced by him. They're good friends.

What exactly is the risk? It's not like Grachev has any aspirations to go play in Russia anytime soon, he played in the OHL for pete's sake. Cherepanov's situation/condition have more to do with the KHL than any other league, and even if we were talking about Grachev going to the KHL, if the Rangers are being rational and reasonable they aren't considering what happened with Cherepanov in their decision because it's not like Grachev is going to go over there and die in a game.
