Noooooo, baseball venues are the worst viewing experience you can have for a hockey game.

And they have been in two small stadiums.

Eh Islanders would be in the game not the Rangers. CitiField/Queens/Long Island is Islander territory.

I'm sure that plenty of Ranger fans would make that trip.

And Torts could make the team take the 7 train out to the game!

I'm pretty confident the Rangers would still be the New York team representing the WC if it was played at CitiField. Not sure why the Bronx is any more "Ranger Country" than Queens would be.

Regardless, now that Yankee Stadium is hosting a Bowl game on New Years Day, I think the Rangers will be the away team in a WC if they are involved. I could see Capitals vs. Rangers in DC.

CitiField is possible but doubtful. Don't think the NHL wants two local teams. One local and one out of market. Bettman wants to put Ovechkin in it. So Caps are a guarantee imo. Who the host and local team is, is up in the air.

Not high enough TV ratings. May be interesting to the New York Market, but it won't capture another big market.

Rangers, Leafs, Habs, Caps, two of these teams I believe will be in the WC next year.

Citi field has sight line issues. A lot of fans would be very, very pissed to buy tickets and only see half the game....literally.

So how does that rule Citi Field out?

Sight line issues for Baseball. Meaning in certain locations (definitely in the outfield) you can't see the field directly below you, which will not be anywhere near the potential rink location. If anything, the closer feel to the action one has at Citi would probably be better for hockey, compared to other ballparks.

It's very cavernous. Folks will have a hard time seeing the ice from the outfield.
I heard some say CF is better option then YS because the seats are closer. That's incorrect. Followed the construction of both parks closely. I think some people are misguided when they talk about new YS seats not being close enough to the field. The sight lines are pretty good. The biggest complaint before fans experienced it was the split upper deck. But the view is just as good if not better then the old place.

Forget the Canadian teams - the winter classic is geared towards the American audience therefore you need 2 American teams. Washingtin vs Rangers would be great.

Doubtful in the sense of the Islanders hosting. I haven't heard anything since this thing started that suggest Bettman wants it either at Citi and/or the Islanders hosting.

Frankly I'd rather the Winter Classic be played in a football stadium, which are perfect for hosting outdoor hockey games.

Unless the league feels that Tavares is going to join the ranks of Malkin, Crosby, Ovechkin.

You're right, YS was built with other events in mind and the seating positions reflect that. Each seat is angled towards the middle of the field, making it ideal for hosting both baseball and football. A hockey rink would take the same position on the field as a football field. I can't speak for Citi field, but I know YS was set up with events such as this in mind.

Yankee Stadium would work just fine, but aren't they hosting a Bowl Game on New Years Day now?

Here's my guess: Rangers vs Caps 1-1-11, somewhere in New York.

A Bowl Game any day in December effectively rules out the possibility of getting a rink up and ready by New Years Day, doesn't it?
