Potential is great and Bernier has tons of it, but Quick is currently proving it in the NHL.
Bernier is in the AHL right now because he's Dean Lombardi's golden boy and he's being groomed for a long career as a starter. The fact that Quick is holding it down right now is really just a bonus in Lombardi's eyes, and saves him from having to go get a "bridge" goalie to fill in until Bernier's ready.

No, Quick has been spectacular this year and has stolen games. Either guy would have been a good choice but Quick is younger and Burke wanted to give the young guy a taste.

Bernier will have to take the job from Quick though, he'll have to out play him.

"Dean Lombardi's golden boy" -- this characterization of Bernier is nothing but a figment of your own imagination. Bernier is good enough to be in the NHL right now, no question, but Quick is simply too mature and strong as an NHL goaltender already for Bernier to displace him for at least the near to medium future.

Bernier is obviously a great asset for the Kings, which may mean being traded for key pieces to raise the Kings to a new level. Don't be shocked if Lombardi ultimately trades his quote-unquote "golden boy", because Quick truly is the Kings best goaltender in a long, long time, many years for sure, and again, he is certainly worth a Team USA selection.

Being "good enough" does not constitute being ready. Of course Bernier could be traded, anybody could. Bernier is being groomed to be a franchise goaltender, unless Quick can be that goalie, Bernier is the long term plan.

Oh please. If you think Lombardi being involved in Team USA had a thing to do with Quick being selected, you're either drunk, stupid, or both. Lombardi has outright stated he'd rather none of his Kings play in the Olympics, with the threat of injury and fatigue. Moreover, Lombardi didn't have a say in who was picked. He had the opportunity to voice an opinion. That's it.

Quick was chosen because he's younger and is having just as good of a season as Anderson. Anderson has been shuffled back and forth between the minors and the NHL his entire career and has finally managed to put together his first solid season at nearly 30 years old. Quick is a young up and comer who has started more games than any goaltender in the National Hockey League and is still putting up fantastic numbers.

Who do you take? The rising 22 year old star, or a career journeyman backup who's having a flash in the pan season? I'm not trying to diminish Anderson's accomplishments this year, because he's played great. But international hockey is a different beast than the pros. It's not as simple as going down a list and picking the goaltenders with the top three save percentages. You have to think about the now and the future. Why do you think Doughty got the call for Canada?

Don't be dumb. Quick was absolutely the right decision for Team USA as their third string goalie.
