Forget Filatov

It looks like the BJ's just addressed their defense issues when they sent Chimera to Caps for Jurcina and Clark. Clark gives them some testosterone and leadership while Jurcina gives them some snarl on the backline.

Our illustrious GM for life needs to get his finger out of his wrinkly bottom. This is a trade that would have been perfect for us. Think about Jurcina banging bodies and Clark providing the leadership we're not getting for $7.05mm.

Bye, Bye Nilita. We hardly knew ye.

And we've lost Prospal for about 5-6 games

You forgot the

Jurcina will clear the crease and make it generally unpleasant to anyone trying to crash the Hank.

Clark has a pulse, so that alone will make him an improvement over Capt'n Nyquil.

Not the answer to ALL of our woes, no. But it's a start.

Clark is a player that can be relied upon to play both ends of the ice well (perfect winger for Anisimov) He plays the corners very well and while not the most physical player in the world, he does bring a much needed element of sandpaper to this otherwise soft team.

Jurcina is a nice young defenceman that can play on the 3rd pairing and spot up on the 2nd pair from time to time.

A big body that's not afraid to use it whereas we don't have one defenceman that has his size (240lbs) or penchant to use it.

I just saw their cap hits and yeah that would have been a decent move we could have easily rounded up a package equivalent to Chimera...

Clark got beat up by Redden, just sayin.

It's not really sayin much really.

A broken clock is right twice a day, it's still a broken clock.

Clark provides an element that we lack, because he got his lunch handed to him by Redden doesn't change that.

I think it's Nikita.
Why wouldn't the Rangers simply target... Zherdev? i know it is stupid to have an exclusive rights and let it vanish for nothing, but... There will be competition for Z comes summer, yet I don't think there will be a huge line of clubs.

Nikita Filatov won't be next: Columbus has had only one offer for the Russian since he left and it didn't make any sense for CBJ.

have any of you actually watched Filatov's NHL contributions on a nightly basis...dont pick up stat sheets from the books

he is a 3rd liner in terms of effort and size and a 1st liner in terms of skill

basically a rich mans P.Prucha

he has superb puck control and the odd burst of speed past slower dmen

but w/ athletic defenders he gets absolutely creamed

right now for someone like Sanguinetti the going rate should start w/ Filatov + a 2nd rounder as Sanguinetti is almost NHL ready in a Tortorella system and more than NHL ready in a Hitchcock system as the 6th Dman.

Filatov is a nice option for the next yr or so but once he needs to be resigned he will be a cap headache.

I like his game for INt'l leagues/ olympics etc...but he's not yet ready for serious NHL duty no matter how good his skill set might look in short bursts of 15-20 games.

hes a rocket with dynamic hands and instincts. hes not going to play the boards and beat you, hes not going to protect the puck and whirl around all over the ice and beat you. hes going to skate past you like you arent there and rip a shot over the goalies shoulder.

thats his game. and it fits very well into our coaches desired style of play.

That's enough for me as well. He'll pick up the physicality with experience and filing out his teenager frame. He's been marked in the tournament so far, but you can see he's very polished.

On another note, the Swedish Devil prospects (Tedenby, Josefson, etc) are looking good as well. Damn the Swedes skates well. I've been watching Team Sweden a bit and hot damn their dmen can lug the puck. Paajarvi, Ekman-Larsen, Erixon, Runblad have some serious upside.

No doubt there's improvements that Filatov needs to make. Gaborik had some problems early in his career as well and I see Filatov as a potential to be something like Gaborik some day. I don't think trading for him is without risk but I'm also not sure just how Sanguinetti's game is going to pan out either--that's if he were to be the main piece for us in the deal. There is also the question of how Sangs fits in now that MDZ has staked his claim to future pwp qb. A guy like McDonagh with his size and physical play would seem IMO to be a better fit for us in the future. So IMO a deal centering around Sanguinetti + for Filatov works for us.

Filatov looked ready to cry when the Swedes started picking on him. Dave Reid was discussing how Filatov disappears if you challenge him physically. Filatov is a baby. At the draft,he told everyone he was going to Sudbury. Changed his mind. Got frustrated in Columbus and went back home. Bashed Columbus when he was back home. Didn't say a word when he was on this side of the pond. Meehan said his client would be back in the NHL for next season. Filatov says he isn't returning unless things change in Columbus. Hitch is a pain in the ass but Nikita needs to grow up.

Zherdev II with better english skills.

Hey here is an interesting quote from a russian coach on this Filitov kid.

RUS Jr coach Plyuschev ripped Filatov "I didn't like our captain at all in many games. We talked to him, he thinks he does everything right"

For the record, Plyuschev's an ass. He threw Filatov under the bus and blamed his team's poor performance on not being able to have players like Grachev, Loktionov, Kulikov and Voynov.

and honestly, I dont think Filatov played that bad in the games ive seen. He wasnt dominating like he has in the past, but he got scoring chances, set up scoring chances...pucks just wouldnt go in for him.

should they? absolutely

How much would it cost? a lot

Gilroy, Lisin 1st '10 would get it done, and its a deal that I think would benefit both sides.

Also, If we could dump a contract on them as well in the process (I'm thinking brashear here, not the really big ones) that would be awesome.

This article is linked on the Prospect Board: http://thepipelineshow.blogspot.com/...-ing-ride.html

Quote:
"Something should change, I'm not going to say what, but there are a couple of reasons if they are still the same, I'm not going back," said the Russian star.
Should he really not want to come back to the Jackets, his value could be pretty low, and we could take a chance on him.
