Mike Richter or Henrik Lundqvist

Who would you rather want overall and in there prime year.

I dont know really, just for you guys to decide.

Do you think Lundqvist will brake his record in wins with the rangers?

I think he will only because Richters career fell short

Can I have a poll for this?

I love Richter, but Hank is more than 1/2 way to his total in a 1/4 of the time.

I have been thinking about this for a long time because my Ranger fanhood is essentially based on Mike Richter - but the things we see Hank do are typically once in a lifetime - luckily - I am getting to see it twice

remember - Ricky spent a lot more time splitting workload than Hank will ever be asked to

this. To be honest here I think that Lundqvist could be somewhere in the top 15-20 in goalie wins when all is said and done (maybe higher if Glen Sather can put a good effing team on the ice).

When Richter was on, he was the best in the league. I don't care what anybody else says.

Overall, you have to go with Richter right now. He has the cup. He was amazing during the World Cup for team USA, he won them that Cup.

I love both players tons and I think Lundqvist is top 5 in the league right now but I never considered him #1 yet. Richter had that #1 for a season or 2.

55%-45% in my mind right now.

Hank is going to be the winning est goalie in the history of the Rangers and that is clear. Mike Richter won a cup and a world cup. Richter played a lot behind terrible teams and Hank is doing that now. Both healthy and in a game 7 for the Cup I take Richter. Richter even tho he allowed softies and didn't always win the big one Hank is just to up and down and doesn't have my confidence at all

I love Hank, but until he wins a cup there is no way I'd put him above Richter.

If it's game 7, I'll take my childhood hero over any goaltender that has played this game.

Mike Richter - Clutch

Bigger the game, better he played. There is no chance in hell, the Rangers win the 94' Cup w/o #35. The saves he made in O/T, and D/O/T against the Devils, wasn't human.

I think Henrik is a better 'Tender though. He just doesn't come up big when the game is on the line. Mikey did though.

Richter was never the #1 goaltender in the league, he had great competition playing against the likes of Roy, Hasek, Belfour, and Brodeur. In fact, I don't think Richter was ever nominated for a Vezina.

But I agree that when it comes to a goalie in the clutch, Richter was excellent. He was great in '94 but I think he was even better in the '97 playoffs, shutting out the top-seeded Devils and outdueling Marty twice in the semi-finals.

I think Lundqvist is the better goaltender but I give Richter the edge based on playoff performance. However, Richter had a much better team in front of him than Lundqvist during the playoffs, and I think if you put Lundqvist on some of those mid-'90s Rangers' teams, he would be dominant.

When it's all said and done, I hope that Lundqvist will be the better netminder.

I think he'll surpass Richter in wins, but like others have already said, game 7-I'm taking Richter all the way. Regular season game - I think i'm going with Hank

I would have to first see how Lundqvist performs in high pressure situations (conference finals, cup finals) before comparing.
That's what matters to me in the end, not the quantity of wins alone.

Can't use Wins as a crutch for who's better. Richter played in an era where there were ties. Lundqvist, doesn't.

Lundqvist was stellar a few years back when he won an Olympic Gold.

True, I'd still like to see what he looks like at MSG during a finals series though.

Ditto.

Love and admire Richter. But Henke is the best I have ever seen covering the bottom half of the net and amazingly consistent. Richter was much more streaky.

If Richter were Lundqvist's size and wore Lundqvist's size pads he would have been a hall of famer. Still Lundqvist though.

Have to call you out like others did on one thing, I love richter, but he was never the #1 goaltender in the league.

Richter gets the edge for the playoff success of course, and the teams playing in front of him post '97 (along with injuries) really held back his career stats. However, Richter also was also sent to the minors in '93 and was battling for his own job with Glenn Healy a bit near the end of '95. These shouldnt be held against him in huge ways (hello, cup in the middle year), but should be mentioned.

If Hank ever matches Richter's cup, this won't even be a contest I think...
