Worst Goalie Tandem in Oilers History?

Perfect_Drug's post got me thinking. Is JD4 really the worst long-term goaltending tandem this team has ever had in their thirty-year history?

Here are the choices.

1979: Eddio Mio (34 GP, 4.21 GAA), Jim Corsi (26 GP, 3.65 GAA), Dave Dryden (14 GP, 4.27 GAA).

1996: Bill Ranford (37 GP, 3.81 GAA), Curtis Joseph (34 GP, 3.44 GAA), Joaquin Gage (16 GP, 3.77 GAA)

1998: Bob Essensa (39 GP, 2.75 GAA), Mikhail Shtalenkov (34 GP, 2.67 GAA), Tommy Salo (13 GP, 2.31 GAA), Steve Passmore (6 GP, 2.82 GAA)

2005: Jussi Markkanen (37 GP, 3.13 GAA), Mike Morrison (21 GP, 2.83 GAA), Dwayne Roloson (19 GP, 2.43 GAA), Ty Conklin (18 GP, 2.80 GAA)

2009: Jeff Deslauriers (23 GP, 2.86 GAA), Nikolai Khabibulan (18 GP, 3.03 GAA), Devan Dubnyk (2 GP, 5.38 GAA)

Conkkanisson by far.

JDD might be below average or average, but his goaltending isn't the reason we're losing games.

I forget how many games Conkkanisson cost us before we got Roloson - and even Roloson played pretty crappy at first. I'm not talking about games where you could say, "oh, if only he had made that one save we would have won." These were games where we outshot and outchanced our opposition by a large margin and lost because our goaltending was pathetic.

And I miss that team...

Joaquin Gage and Steve Passmore are probably the worst goalies I've ever seen where an Oiler sweater. My vote goes to the 98/99 season befor Salo came along. Essensa was ok, but Shtalenkov was bloody horrible to watch. He'd be on fire for 2 games than suck beyond belief for the next 5 or 6 and it sunk the Oilers to near the bottom of the western conference until Salo came along, on a white stallion and carried the team into the playoffs.

ps-how come I'm not eligible to vote?

JDD and DD aren't that bad, I wasn't aware people were even complaining about them. Though the numbers actually do make them look pretty bad here. I really thought guys like Morrison and Conklin would have worse numbers.

Edit: I loved Steve Passmore because he played goalie like a twelve year old. He'd just dive headfirst across the net. Or at least he did in that game against Buffalo that I remember. For the record, the Oilers won 6-4 and I'm pretty sure it was Passmore's first win as an Oiler.

The current goaltender situation ain't pretty, but I'd hardly lay any blame at them. I think JDD for who he is (rookie who rode too much pine in the past, now thrown into the fire without any sense of managing the number of games he plays) is doing great and I'd like to see him develop.

A better question is this: which of those goalie groupings gives the best nickname?

Miorsiden?
Ranjogage?
Esshalsalmore?
Morkkirolink?
Deslaurbulnyk?

holy crap, i remember the year with Essenssa/Shtalenkov...I actually thought Shtalenkov would be decent with us after coming from Anaheim. And Essensa wasn't a bad backup for us.

but boy was I wrong...Salo was a godsend for us

Conkannen was as bad as it got, they had such a penchant for giving up bad goals at bad times, pretty much the opposite of being clutch. Not to mention we had one of the best defenseman playing for the Oilers at the time.

I went with 05 and although I really think Dubnyk might be the worse option out of the bunch right now, JDD is doing well. He rarely cost us games unlike in 2005 where we need to score 5+ to have the game in the bag.

I don't remember 79, so maybe that year is worse but not being born at that time I can't have a guess.

I took this year's tandem just over 2005 and 1998.

Yeah for sure, but looking at their stats, I thought the GAA would be much higher.

Trying to remember what our defence was like back then.

A lot more clutching and grabbing back then was there not? Would have to take a look but for some reason I have to think that is back when good goalies add gaa around 2.00.
