Over the past few games, Leighton has proven to be perhaps the luckiest goaltender in NHL history. This, combined with good to very good defensive performance, has made him seem much better than he is.
Actually, I think Boucher may actually be the luckiest. He holds the NHL record for the longest shutout streak (five games) when he was with Phoenix. Let me tell you, he was not that good in those games. Shots off of posts, disallowed goals, broken sticks on empty nets, saves by defensemen, etc.

I'm not overflowing with confidence towards Boucher, but it's not even close. Leighton will be gone.
Luck is very important when it comes to goaltending. Every goalie relies on luck. Pucks take weird bounces and screens can make a puck impossible to see. Without luck, every goalie would be letting in a lot more goals.

Which kind of means luck washes out as being important.
What goaltending situation are you referring to? I am not sure if you're saying it is the problem with the Flyers right now, but if you are, I'm shocked. They can't finish, plain and simple. If there is any move to be made or any player to be brought in, make it a certified finisher. I think I could've put some of those golden chances in the net yesterday.
im saying the situation between three goaltenders... i agree that the flyers woes are from not scoring goals... what i am saying about emery and boosh is that they are not all stars.....but i fully realize that emery was playing well before his injury and boosh stood on his head and could have had a much better record if the flyers score more then 5 goals in his 10 starts.....
The goaltending situation that I am alluding to is the fact that we seem to have 3 goaltenders that are playing relatively well.
It is what it is this year, and that is Emery, Boosh, Leighton in that order.
Goaltending is clearly not the problem with this team, even though that is the popular thing in Philly....I dont think Emery is the long term answer, but he was playing very solid before he got hurt. Who knows how long he was playing hurt...Boosh is a more than adequate backup and can get on some hot streaks and start for you over stretches when needed.
This team was averaging something like 1.7 goals scored per game during that streak, not going to win many game with Roy or Brodeur like that much less anyone else.
We somehow need to get a young goaltender in here though.....Any chance we can get Schneider from Vancouver now that they signed Luongo long-term?
I fear that the "Richards era" is going to be a repeat of the Lindros era where we are always close, but never have the goaltender to get it done. The cap situation is not going to get any better over the next couple of years either. Someone from Briere, Gagne, Carter and Hartnell are going to need to be moved to free up space for a goalie unfortunately and in my opinion, Gagne is the last one I move.
Ray seems to generally really like being here. First the boxer helmet and now this one, it is obvious he respects the history of the town. On top of us being the team that resurrected his NHL career, how susceptible does everyone think Emery would be to taking a homer discount?
I would be VERY happy with 3 years/3.5M per.
It would give just enough time for Eriksson to blossom into the next Lundqvist

Emery's new mask featuring Pelle, Hextall and Parent is AWESOME!!!!
So awesome. This is a good one.
Anyone know if there are other goalies out there who have tributes to goalies of the past from their team or even just a favorite player of theirs from growing up?
I think that if Emery is healthy, he has to be your guy. Maybe you can debate back-ups, but Leighton's never been a starter and Boucher's never been a full time starter for a playoff team.

Steve Shields had a tribute mask to Gerry Cheevers when he was a Bruin, and Jeff Hackett had a Bernie-Pelle-Hexy mask during his time as a Flyer.
