Hawks get a gamebreaker who can put us over the top while the Thrashers get a young top 6 LW/RW , top 4 dman + pick.

Kovalchuk-Toews-Kane
Sharp-Bolland-Hossa
Ladd-Madden-Byfuglien
Eager-Fraser-Brouwer
(Kopecky)

Seabrook-Keith
Campbell-Hjalmarsson
Sopel-Hendry

Huet
Niemi

I would be very happy going into the playoffs. We will be moving Versteeg and Barker in offseason anyway why not go for it all
That trade (or one a lot like it) makes a lot of sense for both teams, really.

It's a very nice return for a rental... and it would make Chicago my pick to win the Stanley Cup this year, especially since Pittsburgh and its top players have been pretty streaky this year and might be tired out a bit from going really deep into the playoffs each of the previous two years.

when was the last time Eklund was right? He said Lecavalier would be a Canadien before the end of 2008 - We are in 2010, still no Lecavalier

The fact is that everyone is interested by Eklund because he say what everyone want to hear ! I could said it myself that the Habs were interested in Kovalchuk, who is not?

At least Tout Sur Le Hockey have links to prove what they are saying

MONTREAL (AMONG OTHER TEAMS) IS INTERESTED!

Get it done and sign him long term Bob ;-)

To Atlanta:

Andrei Kostitsyn
Sergei Kostitsyn
Roman Hamrlik
David Fischer
1st round draft pick in 2010

To Montreal:

Ilya Kovalchuk
Mark Popovic

Cammalleri - Plekanec - Kovalchuk
Pouliot - Gomez - Gionta

Note: You guys think Kovalev was treated like a god here? - LOL
Hopefully you're not Gainey, btw, don't EVER try to be a GM oneday

According to Bob McKenzie, Atlanta wants the following for Kovalchuk!

2 high draft picks, 2 NHL ready prospects, and a promising young roster player.

So, in my opinion Boston is in the perfect position to make the move for Kovalchuk, I know that we don't want to hear this, but Boston can contend this season with him.

To Atlanta:

1st round draft pick in 2010 (from Toronto)
1st round draft pick in 2010 (Boston's)
Joe Colborne
Brad Marchand
Jeff LoVecchio

To Boston:

Ilya Kovalchuk
2nd round draft pick in 2010

Somehow I don't think Boston would have the cap space for a 10+ million dollar Kovalchuk.

I'd personnally give both Kostitsyn, Maxwell and a 1st if we have a decent chance of signing Kovalchuk. And I think we would have a great chance of signing him given Markov's here and the fact he openly admitted Montreal was his favorite city in the NHL.

Even though I'm not holding my breath, having Kovalchuk, Cammalleri and Gionta as top-6 forwards would be fantastic. Sure we might not be able to sign Plekanec in the summer, but if really nothing can be worked out with Pleks before the deadline and things aren't looking too good on this side, I'd be tempted to drop a line.

That being said, I want Pleks locked up ASAP.

I would only do it if we knew that Ilya was going to be signed for at least 5 years with us!

NEXT SEASON:

Cammalleri - Plekanec - Kovalchuk
Pouliot - Gomez - Gionta
Pacioretty - Lapierre - Moen
Laraque - White - Pyatt

Markov - O'Byrne
Hamrlik - Spacek
Gill - Gorges

Price
Sanford

I think he meant Brad. From what I know of the guy he's some sort of agitator with decent hands a some talent...

Given we're in a good spot on March 3rd (5th-6th-7th) and that negociations with Plekanec are not going anywhere, I'd be tempted to pull a move for Kovalchuk. Let's say:

A. Kostitsyn
S. Kostitsyn
B. Maxwell
G. Laraque ()
1st 2010

vs

Kovalchuk

We'd have an option if Plekanec doesn't want to come back, and we'd gain some cap space for this summer.

Even without Plekanec going into 2010-2011:

Cammalleri (6M) - Deharnais (0,5M) - Kovalchuk (9M)
Pouliot (0,9M) - Gomez (7,3M) - Gionta (5M)
Moen (1,5M) - Metropolit (1,5M) - Pacioretty (0,875M)
White (0,6M) - Lapierre (1,25M) - Pyatt (0,6M)

Markov (5,75M) - Subban (0,875M)
Hamrlik (5,5M) - Spacek (3,83M)
Gorges (1,5M) - Gill (2,25M)

Price (3M)
______

= Around 57,73M, and the cap is projected to go up by about 1M this summer according to the last speculations.

is a lineup I'd be comfortable to ice in 2010-2011. Kovalchuk can pretty much carry a line on his back, and Deharnais would look good for sure with two great snipers like those on his wings.

Um no. If we trade for Kovalchuk, we certainly wouldn't have the cap space to keep either Plekanec or Gomez, and most probably Hamrlik either. If a Kovalchuk trade were to happen, either one of Plekanec or Gomez would have to go.

Unless Atlanta is willing to accept a lot of salary back, I don't see how Montreal can make this trade. It will end up crippling the team.

Trading for a russian rental who will want 10+M ultra long term is insane.

I mentionned russian cause he will probably start a bidding war with the KHL and will likely never sign the crazy deal he wants in MTL.

No way

theres no way atlanta gets that without a signed Kovalchuk so keep dreaming if anything atleast 1 first rounder will be conditional on kovalcuk signing and i still dont see many teams doing it i would love to see boston make that trade you mentioned and make it to the eastern finals and lose then Kovalchuk walks out in the offseason its just a fantasy

Okay first of all it's not impossible to go arround the cap it doesn't take a genius to make a few moves to have enough money

couple trades,waivers and it's done.

Has for kovy wanted 9mil/10mil that's to stay with Atlanta kovalchuck ain't dumb he knows if the thrashers lose him their team is done so why not ask all the money to stay there,if he wants to join a team that will be making a run for the cup he knows he won't get all that.

If this summer he's still not signed and he's after the money then guaranteed he will be a leaf for the next couple seasons but does he really wanna be on a losing team going nowhere again ? That I'm not sure but u never know with these Russians
