Of those teams mentioned, I believe the Oilers are the only team to never have had a top 3 draft.

Yep. If you finish 30th overall there's roughly a 50/50 chance between picking 1st and 2nd overall. So you're guaranteed one of Hall/Seguin. Unless you wanna boost your D and go with Fowler, of course.

Yup.

48.1% - 30th ranked team
18.8% - 29th ranked team
14.2% - 28th ranked team
10.7% - 27th ranked team
8.1% - 26th ranked team

On the topic of Fowler, I have not been more impressed by an American defenceman in a single game at the WJC since Erik Johnson. Fowler had an A+ game in my books; he showed off every single dimension he possesses and if you can get him to play that way every night he's a franchise player.

I think any one of Hall, Seguin, or Fowler would be a great building block for the team. To ensure a bottom three pick, the Oil need to be 29th or 30th, which I think is doable.

I actually think the main competition for worst in the league will come from the Jackets... I think the Hurricanes will pick up the pace in the second half.

This thread summarizes my feelings of this season - let it be over now.

I can't even watch full Oilers games. I've had to turn off all recent games by mid-2nd.... this is worse than the 06-07 season. At least that team kinda cared, but was brutal because of the rookies.

Good luck but no one can out suck us. We've been the worst team in the league for a decade, we can't be bottomed

Hey, at least you ended up with good prospects like Gilbert Bru... oh, right.

Youve already got Nash. Leave Hall alone. I am getting my jersey crested tomorrow.

The Jackets are a tough team to play against for alot of teams. They draft well, have had excellent goaltending for awhile, and not having a second star has hurt them, but they are pretty decent team.

Here's how you break down the bottom 5

Canes - Injuries
Oilers - Injuries and incompetence in their defensive zone
Leafs - The NHL version of the Short Little Yellow School Bus on defense - Team built to lose against teams with speed
Jackets - Not playing up to their potentials for whatever reason
Ducks - HUGE void in their defense as a result of Pronger not being on the roster anymore. Top offensive stats in the league but can't stop a beach ball in their defensive zone.

Yeah of course. But its a bit much to be all that bad if you know what I mean.
Honestly with the Oilers record of drafting and player development, I have a tough time putting my expectations in some invisible prospects.

I've only seen Cam Fowler in two games, those being the games against Canada and Sweden.

Thought he was outstanding in both. He is ahead of Hall in my books. I haven't seen enough of Seguin to even have an opinion.

Mr. Bugg, would you select Fowler ahead of Hall or Seguin?

The CBJ get "out sucked" every year. They can't even tank properly. Overall, we may have been the worst team for a decade, but you know that we'll end up picking 6th again - just crappy enough that all the "good" guys are already gone.

For the record, the CBJ traded for their #1 pick - they were supposed to be picking 3rd that year.

Things can change over time. Oiler management can't be stupid all the time though they do good job of it.
