Martin Biron?

With Khabibulin still on the shelf and the Oilers riding Deslauriers hard, I wonder if Oilers brass are looking to find an experienced goalie to back him up for the rest of the season. Dubnyk's development isn't going to be helped by sitting on the bench / flying back to play a game here and there. And it certainly won't help his value if we decide to try to move him in the off-season (since I imagine one of the goalies will move this year).

As for Deslauriers, I would definitely like him to play the majority of the game towards the end of the season or until (if) Khabibulin returns. But playing 19 of 20 or whatever it the pace is now could wear him out. Which certainly doesn't help his development or his value around the league.

Enter the NYI:

Islanders' Three Headed Monster - Hockey or Die

As Willis points out Biron hasn't played that well this season which maybe makes him a poor choice, but it also means he would come cheap (4th or 5th round pick perhaps?) and at the very worst he pushes this team closer to a high draft pick.

Well don't misunderstand, I don't view Biron as any kind of long term solution, really just someone to ride the pine and play every 7th or 8th game. Or should we just keep rotating Dubnyk down to the farm for a game and then have him sit on the bench for a week?

For this year I don't want to waste valuable assets on something like a backup goalie so why not Biron? He's not here to "save the day" just to give Deslauriers a rest. And we can't exactly be bringing in more longterm goalies, unless neither Deslauriers or Dubnyk is going to be here next year.

Not that I don't mind the theory behind it and sooner or later they need to do something because you are right about Dubnyk. I just don't want to give up much for him.

Other issue is Dipetrio has yet to play a game, I don't see the Isles moving Biron or Rollie until they know what is happening with him.

If the team is worried about Dubnyk sitting too long and not playing seems like this was the best thing to do:

Why waste a draft pick to get Biron?

Even if it is a 5th round pick, it'll be a high 5th round pick
