Marcel Goc

Hi,

I would like to have your opinion on this player. Do you think that he will continue to accumulate points like he did lately ? I have a trade to do in my pool and having Dumont already, i'm considering trading for him.

Thanks !

GTO

I think he's about as good of a bottom six forward as we've ever had, in every aspect of his game.

That said, he's not going to be a huge points guy. If he hits 16 or 17 goals this year, he'll have blown away his previous high and shattered all expectations.

I think most of us think 10 goals and 10 assists would be an amazing year for him....Considering he is probably going to shatter these numbers, his tenure as a Pred has been a dramatic success. He has always had a lot of talent. When he first broke into the league, Shark fans thought he was going to be a 50-60 point player. He certainly has all the talent EXCEPT for the hands. This year, he has had a bit of scoring touch to go with the smarts and speed....it has made all the world of difference. Maybe moving on to a new team was all he needed. He really is the ideal Trotz player....

To answer your question, no, I don't think he is a worthwhile fantasy addition. Now, Martin Erat might be.

I really expect Goc to put up just shy of 20 goals and around 35-40 points. He has found his role and it took him probably 15 games to do so. He is a 3rd line center who can actually step up if he needs to on a higher line.

That's why I'm considering Goc, the good ones will be gone when my turn comes up !

If your league counts faceoffs, he might be worth your while. If not, I'm not so sure. Goc's scoring picked up with Dumont b/c Dumont is great at setting up guys, but with Erat out for who knows how long, I expect Dumont back on the top line feeding Arnott. When Dumont and Arnott heat up, they are fantasy gold and you're practically guaranteed an assist and goal between the two of them every game as Dumont feeds Arnott for that slapshot of his.

I can probably have Ward up to my turn, would you take him before Brouwer ?

Depends on what you need...

Goals = Even/Slight advantage with Brouwer
Assists = Ward
Pts = Even/Slight advantage with Ward
+/- = Brouwer (because Ward plays on a checking line)
PIM = Brouwer
TOI = Ward
SOG = Ward

Brouwer is also 5 years younger so he has a little room to grow. But IMO, Ward is a better choice.

But, Ward plays on a 3 line and Brouwer is playing on Kane's line ... you think Ward gonna get more points ?

No... I don't. But Ward does NOT play on a 3rd line. He plays on our 2nd line (which plays about 19 minutes a night). Just we happen to use our 2nd line as a checking line. Obviously, Brouwer will get more points since he playing with Kane. But if i were to take a player based on talents and skill rather than stats, I'd have Ward.

That is why i started it out with "Depends on what you need". But IMO, with Brouwer being younger and playing on a MUCH higher powered offense, I'd go with him for stats.
