no doubt to this point and i am surprised so many people have picked Elias...and I'd take him as well. Maybe he is not as underrated as he seems because it looks like alot of people here recognize how incredible he is. Best LW in hockey IMO

Trust me, we Devils fans have known about that page for a long, long time. A while back someone proved it wasn't Elias, but I can't remember how...

I love both players, I would say Elias and Nazzy are tied for the best LW in hockey today, add Kovalchuk to that list too. AH I dont know who I would choose on mine. Can't I just have my 3 LW's on my team as Nazzy, Elias, Kovalchuk and Nash? LOL That would be one hell of a team.

"Patrik Elias In Porno?"

"Patrik Elias (number 26), hockey millionaire from the New Jersey Devils, took a stab at pornography when notified of a contentious internet debate in which he was unfavorably compared to Swedish NHL star Markus Naslund. Elias and close friend Owen Wilson, identified in the second photograph on the right, had their way with Mr. Naslund's girlfriend in a Stockholm airport hangar after the NHL star became enraged by the negative internet press. 'During the lockout, I haven't had a whole lot to do besides troll internet hockey forums looking for trouble. I saw that the debates had clearly turned against me and got pretty upset, so I did what I normally do when I'm sad - I called Owen Wilson so we could watch Waiting to Exhale' and share a gallon of Ben and Jerry's Phish food. Well, after a few too many mango daquiris, we flew to Stockholm with nothing but a digital camera and a handful of Levitra. Little did I know that the stupid pictures we took would turn me into the Czech Paris Hilton. I'm so ashamed."

"Owen Wilson could not be reached for comment."

In that time frame Naslund has 164 goals to Elias' 115, and 353 points to Elias' 295. Thats a pretty wide margin right there. I think it's also safe to say that Naslund has effectively made the players around him better. Bertuzzi was a 25 goal guy before he lined up beside Naslund, then he exploded for seasons of 36 and 46 goals. And last year, when he did slump, that didn't pull Naslund down, he continued to put up solid offensive numbers which we he is known for.

And this brings me to perhaps the biggest difference between the two, consistency. Take a look at Naslund's offensive numbers over the past 4 years, he's been pretty consistent, improving every year until his best year in 2002/03. Then look at Elias' numbers, 96, 61, 57, 81. So great year, average year, average year, great year. That's not the type of consistency you want from your star player.
It's not suprising that Naslund has more points, when he gets more ice time, and the Canucks have outscored the Devils in 3 of the 4 years. The Canucks have also been more consistent in their team scoring. In the last 4 years the Devils had the highest and 3 lowest GF totals, with the Canucks ranking 2-5 out of the 8 totals. Over the last 4 years, Naslund has played an average of 1:30 minutes more per game on a team that has scored 73 more goals.

Factor the points as % of team offense/ games played and you get a different picture.

Elias: 72 = 32.7%, 96 = 32.5, 61 = 32.5, 57 = 26.7, 81 = 38.0
Naslund: 65 = 28.6%, 75 = 35.7, 90 = 35.7, 104 = 39.4, 84 = 37.6

Factor in ice time and it's even closer. Elias has a high of 18:56 over the last 5 years, and Naslund has a low of 19:02.

Naslund is more consistent and productive, but only slightly so.

I'd pick Elias, because IMO he's the best player in the NHL, I might be the only person outside his immediate family that thinks so, but he is the most well rounded and dependable player in the NHL in my opinion, he is the best player in the league at discerning what needs to be done and then being capable of going out and doing it.

Flame away.

Not true.

2003-04 - 22nd in scoring
2002-03 - 23rd in scoring
2001-2002 - 21st in scoring
2000-2001 - 1st in scoring

Never last.

Naslund, who has been a much more consistent point producer the past 3-4 seasons.

Comparing only to the Canucks, not the league. "with the Canucks ranking 2-5 out of the 8 totals"

NJ 2001 -295
Vcr 2003 - 264
Vcr 2002 - 254
Vcr 2000 - 239
Vcr 2004 - 235
NJ 2003 - 216
NJ 2004 - 213
NJ 2002 - 205

It's easier to be consistent when playing with the same players. NJ has seen the departure of 67% of it's top line, 60% of it's #1 pp unit, and 50% of it's 2nd & 3rd lines over that 3-4 years. Of Vancouver's top 6 scoring forwards in each in the last 4 years, 4 or 5 have been there for all 4. With the Devils it's been 3 or 4, and Elias and Gomez are the only players in the top 6 all 4 years, with Brylin and Madden filling the other spots.
