Rangers Prospect Poll: #3

Artem Anisimov came in second and Matt Gilroy was voted to be added to the poll.

Since we are done with our two top rookies and we are likely to start voting for Hartford, Junior and College prospects, I think it would be good if people gave their reason for choosing a prospect.

Instead of just writing "DZ" or "AA", state why you chose that particular. This would actually be a very good way to learn (and argue) about prospects. And don't forget to list who you want added to the poll in the next round. (Remember, we are using the HF standard for who's a prospect: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/whatmakesaprospect)

1. Michael Del Zotto
2. Artem Anisimov

Voted for Grachev because he's done well in juniors and is solid in the AHL. Step was very close to G-man in my mind, but while he dominated the WJC, he hasn't dominated in college.

He's very good at the college level, but not dominant. After 18 games he has 22 points. If in the next 18 games, he has 27+ points (1.5 per game), he may well become our second best prospect right after DZ.

It could be said that people are just jumping on his bandwagon after one good game, but let's be honest, he's a very, very talented netminder.

He's done phenomenally in college, then in the preseason and after a bit of a slow start in Hart, turned it on big time. And both outings for the Rangers have been solid.

I actually can see adding him to the poll this early. Not voting for him, but adding him. There's nothing wrong with people thinking he's one of our top 10 prospects.

Prior to his acquisition, our prospects were weak in the net. Not anymore. It's not our position of strength (defense is), but nor is it a position of weakness anymore.

85!

Yeah, Chad Johnson is one of the more legit goaltending prospects this organization has had lately. I voted Grachev, add Johnson!

Grachev is the only top-tier scoring winger in the system, so he is much more valuable.

Add Bourque.

Sangs.

I know he isn't as trendy but the numbers he's putting up in the AHL as a 2nd year Dman are pretty darn good. Plus I think he could step into our top-6 today.

Grachev. Very high end talent and potential to develop into a gamebreaker, if everything goes perfectly. Even if he becomes a physical 60 point winger, that's very good.

Add Werek.

Problem is that after he was originally cold up, he went called. He was scoring at a point per game pace until then, which is enormous for a defenseman in the AHL.

We got spoiled by Del Zotto, when in reality his performance is the exception and not the norm when dealing with rookie defensemen. It was obvious that Sanguinetti was most concerned with getting his positioning in order during his games with the Rangers. The offense will come eventually.

Votes Sangs, add Werek

I am surprised that Sanger is getting that many votes without any for McD. Is it just because we saw him more? By most accounts of people who've seen them, McD > Sanger.

Grachev add Werek. I say this as the biggest Stepan supporter because Grachev has a higher ceiling than Stepan.

Grachev would have been my #2...but did Stepan really showed himself these past 2 weeks.

Leader of the underdog team USA
Point leader in the ENTIRE prospect tournament (sorry Grachev, you would have not done that).

My man Stepan slightly gets the nod over Grachev who is having a poor first season in the AHL (yea yea, i understand he's 19, but a tad more was expected from him then 4g/2a in the past 23 games or whatever it is now).

Grachev still a TOP, TOP prospect for me...but at this moment, Stepan is proving more, and im just so excited he is Rangers property.

The whole Grachev is playing vs men is very meh to me unless he is producing, which over the past 2 months..he hasnt.

BOTH TOP PROSPECTS, once again...3 and 4 are very hard to differ..but the nod goes to Stepan for me.

And yes, Grachev higher ceiling, which I usally consider pretty high when i vote...but Stepan is just so safe...no way he is under a 2nd line center in the NHL..pushing to be a top center.

Went with Sangs; Grachev may be more valuable to us in the end but he hasn't lit up the AHL the way a lot of people thought he was going to. I'm still confident he'll be good, but Sangs is doing great in the A and looked pretty good.

Add Heikkenen.

This is really hard. This is the first time I have ever had trouble in deciding who to vote in the top 5. Each of these players are so talented and interchangeable. Its incredible. We have a really bright future in this organization. It will even be brighter if sather is magically handed a pink slip.

I hope the next guy is as committed to keeping these players as he is.
