lol I was waiting for someone to post that.

He played a great first "starting" game. Made some big saves. If he keeps it up we got ourselves a good back-up.

Judging from the kids history at every level he's played at and his performance in preseason and his solid game last night, I think Chad can either become just as good if not better than Lundqvist in the near future. I'm just being honest here but I'm not saying trade Lundqvist right away...

I am, right now Hank is better obviously. He has something that Johnson doesn't have right now and that's experience in the NHL but Chad looks very promising I don't see how anyone can argue with that.

I really don't know how you can see that from his stats. Lundqvist dominated in a men's league, while Johnson only had one real good year in the NCAA.

Seriously guys, goalies like Lundqvist aren't exactly dime a dozen (although Dagoon will say so), and the fact that Johnson played a good game (and he was lucky quite a few times) really only means that he could be an NHL goalie. Before he could be a starter let alone a star, he has to play like this for many many more games.

Can't wait till one of Kreider or Grachev comes up, has an average game, and is then poised to surpass Gaborik at some point.

He was decent, but had he not been so fortunate in terms of bounces, we could have lost that game 4 or 5 to 1. Sorry, but you're delusional if you think anything about that game says "Will possibly replace Lundqvist." Then again, I'm not the least bit surprised by this thread.

And if he let in three goals we'd all be declaring it him a disaster...?

I honestly can't believe people are putting him ahead of someone who is unquestionably a top 5 goalie in the NHL because he had one good start. I could show you goalies who had one good rookie season who failed completely, and yet here we are discussing him as a franchise goalie.

Typical HF crap

He almost beat got a win against a team that is like 0-6-4 in the last 10 games, while getting help from several posts and making a lucky (albeit nice) save on a fanned shot

Cup here we come!

Johnson played an outstanding game yesterday, no doubts about that. However I found him, and therefore us, very lucky to finish the game at 1-1. Wether it be the post, the crossbar, the opened net missed by Kovalchuk, and a couple of other occasions, we were close to come home with 2 or 3 goals more in the back of our nets.

Yup, I'm pretty confident--based off his decent-to-good college career and 22 AHL games--that Chad Johnson will become an elite NHL goalie. Absolutely.

As Craig Ferguson would say:

People in an asylum and people who post on HFboards are very different of course. One includes a group of people who have no capability for rational thought, should be kept locked up, and could endanger your intelligence if spent too much time with. The other group of course are the people in the asylum

yup. If he got chased in the first period he probably would be considered a career AHL'er Only a one game memory around here..

The team really played a hard D game in front of him, no doubt a bit more crease collapsing etc. due to the rookie in net. 18 blocked shots as well (7 by Drury). Don't want to diminish how good he was, but lets see him do it 5 years in a row before we crown him better than Hank.

I thought they were better than Gaborik already?

While it was a good game for Chad I would hope he does this a few more times. then maybe take a little more load of of Hank so he is good for the PO's.

but for the Hell of it. Trade Hank and a first for Kovy and Bogo (you know he isn't going to resign in 4 years anyway)

Okay, fair enough. Let's just see how Johnson continues to play and after a sufficient amount of games (however many that would be) we can judge him. But so far in preseason and his game last night he looks great.

One of the biggest challenges of being a starter is playing 65+ games a season.

Even a good backup that can produce shutouts in a quarter of his games would not necessarily be able to be a starter

Right now I believe chad's a guy we can have faith in to be a backup, and to step in if hank's having a really tough game. I think it'll also help hank's game a bit to know he's got a real backup sitting on that bench as opposed to someone who's there just because of the rules (*cough* zaba). Even if he let 10 goals in the first period they wouldn't sub zaba in.
