Stars forward Jere Lehtinen missed his second straight game with a sore groin. Lehtinen skated with the team Wednesday morning at the American Airlines Center, but the team decided it was better to give him some extra rest heading into the Christmas break.
I'm sure some of you already saw this but the lines from yesterday were different, not sure how long that experiment will last. Yes obviously lehtinen makes the line more defensively responsible but he has shown that the scoring touch is clearly not what it was, plus it is only about 5 games till he goes back on the injury list.
The Dallas Stars announced today that center Mike Ribeiro has been placed on injured reserve and is expected to be out four-to-six weeks due to a throat contusion suffered on Wednesday night at the New York Rangers.
Ribeiro underwent a procedure at St. Vincentís Catholic Medical Center in Manhattan last night to repair the contusion, which included a tracheotomy. He is expected to stay in the hospital for a few days before returning to Dallas.
Ribeiro suffered the injury when he was hit in the neck by the stick of Rangers forward Chris Higgins at 15:32 of the second period last night. Higgins was assessed a two-minute minor penalty on the play.
Which I can understand with not having called anyone up yet, but here is the kicker...
I don't know that it's a kicker.
I missed Brunnstrom's first game down there, but he was a -2. I did watch the 2nd game though, and his first period was unbelievable. I love the guy, and it didn't look like he belonged in the ECHL. Txomisc will back me up. It was horrific. However, from the 2nd period on he's been great. He's actually scored 5 points in the last 5 periods playing great hockey.
They should not rush him at this point. The guy obviously needs some time to get into game shape, and they are playing him a ton right now in Austin. I believe he will get back to back games this weekend and another game on Tuesday.
Brunnstrom will be in the mix for the Montreal game according to Crawford (audio at Andrew’s).
That's fantastic. Wow after the the two games in New York, the Texas game last night and now this? This has been the worst sports week ever. Fate, the sports gods, or whomever are really beating me down to the point that I don't want to turn on my tv if this continues.
The Stars have placed defenseman Nicklas Grossman on IR retroactive to Jan. 6 with a lower body injury (believed to be his knee). The earliest Grossman could return is the Jan. 14 game against Montreal.
They have recalled Maxime Fortunus from Texas (AHL), which will give them seven defensemen. It will be interesting to see how the Stars use Fortunus. He could step right into the lineup, allowing the Stars to scratch Matt Niskanen or Jeff Woywitka, or he could be a depth defenseman and be a healthy scratch.
Hopefully Fortunus plays and Woywitka is scratched
